Default LSVTEC or NON vtec headwork?

I have a built turboed b18b1 in my acura integra now, and I was going to buy a good set of cams, but wondering if i'd make better and more power switching to vtec or by just getting good cams. My head already has the following work, port and polish, and manley dual valvesprings and titanium retainers. Should I get good cams? or sell my head and switch to lsvtec? Looking for the more power
thanks rocco

What turbo are you running? If you have a good port and polish the right set of cams will go a long way. How much power are you making now? Been to the track?

A VTEC head will still probably flow more than your non-vtec head even after it's ported, and all the stock VTEC cams are bigger than most all aftermarket non-vtec cams, including the ones like crower 405's that give you mediocre low/mid range power. I'd personally go with a VTEC head.

It all depends on what your ultimate goal is. IF you're looking for MAX power and trying to break 500+hp, then the VTEC head is a proven way of making power in that range.

But if you're jus a street setup and goals are only in the 300s or so, then the non-vtec head maybe good enough for you.

If his goal is 3XXwhp the non-vtec head is good enough. I was able to make 317whp @ 14lbs off a street tune on a Dyno Dynamics with a slipping RPS clutch, a cracked Crack-Fabrication exhaust manifold and timing coming unsynched at 6600RPM. This was with a stock port head, Crower 62404's and a GT3076RLE

theres an 2.0 LS somewhere around here throwing down in the 500-600 whp range. Vtec isnt always necessary.

You can still make fat torque with non-vtec, it just won't hold in the upper rpms like a vtec head. If you port it and get cams that do, then low-end will suffer some.

A vtec conversion is about $400-700 in parts, non-vtec cams/springs/retainers go for $500+ for a very cheap set. Both need elbow grease in their own ways, but one is at its peak, the other can still be built for more power.

With a completely ported head and Crower 404's. People have made as much horsepower as that, at the same boost level as him with a bone stock ITR head.

thats a good way of putting it.

i was in the same situation last year. i had planned on an ls with 402T's and some headwork, but i got a good deal on a vtec head so i went that route. b16 head and gsr cams, everything else stock.

both my ls turbo and lsvtec started really making power at 5k rpms, but the vtec motor made power for another 1000 rpms.

if you only want like 300-350whp stay ls, if you are looking for more power, or more of a track car i think vtec might be a better solution
