Default vtec vs non vtec d-series

i want to build up a n/a d-series and was wondering which head would be better the non-vtec or the vtec. i know that there are more cams available for the non-vtec setup and i figure with some porting that it could make better power than the vtec head even with porting because i could get a much more aggressive cam for the non-vtec head than the vtec head. any thoughts?

If anything the VTEC heads probably have better high rpm breathing capibility, and if you want power na....more rpms and more displacement are the only ways to go.

A non-vtec head will be simpler, but it may be less streetable if you get some crazy long duration, high lift, custom cams.

How fast do you want your car to be?

Yeah, I'd say it's a toss up. Either a DOHC from an early D16 out of a 1st gen teg to have the tuning ability of two cams, or have it be a bit more streetable with the SOHC vtec. If you're getting crazy cams, possibly custom, for high rpm power, I'd take the non-vtec.

I have a bunch of SOHC Vtec engine setup ideas...hit me up on email...I'll tell ya few...

I'm also making a webpage dedicated to engine build up suggestions for D & B series engines using mostly OEM parts. Someday I"ll finish it...

The non-VTEC heads have a combustion chamber design that is more detonation resistant than the VTEC heads. That means you can run more compression and more timing. (Of course, proper engine assembly is key.)

hmmm i thought the newer (96up) vtec heads had a better combustion chamber than the other d-series heads including the non-vtec? besides once i make a decision on the head vtec or not i will have it ported and i think whoever i send it too will mod the combustion chamber anyways.

The 96 up do have better combustion chambers.....they are more round instead of square, that is what I heard.
