Default ls/vtec turbo build question

I am building a LS/Vtec turbo motor but for some reason all i can find are 8.5:1 comp pistons. anyone know where i can find 8.0:1? i'm going to be boreing it out to 84mm after i get it resleveed but if i cant find 84mm with the comp i want then i'lll stick with the 81mm.
Anyone??

P.S. one more question. i see that there are cams that work with turbo setup. so what cams should i be going for, get better vtec cams or ones that work with turbos? i've build a few NA motors just this forced induction is new to me.

thanks

You can have pistons made in what ever ratio you want (with in reason). Why 8:1 anyway,9:1 will work for most setups.

8.0:1 is pretty low... i wouldnt go that low for compression if i were you. The throttle response on low end will be garbage. Shoot for around 9.0:1 like already recommended above.

Any particular reason for going straight to 84mm? I dont think your gonna yield as much power by doing this as you think. Plus this wont't leave any room to bore the block again. I'd go with 81.5 first then as you rebuild go bigger if you have to

alright i'll do 9:1 just didn't want to run the risk of to much comp with the boost. want 84mm for better displacement (just more tq and power)

Why not just give the car a little more boost? Im telling ya, at 84mm if you eat a piston, crack a ring or something goes wrong for any reason then you cant bore the sleeves to get rid of any rough spots. You'll be stuck with a block that has no option but re-sleeving again.

What kind of power levels are you looking for?

I'm looking to get 300+ WHP, as for the 84MM bore i got where you are going, i guess by keeping it at 81mm or 81.5 it leaves more sleeve to hold up the the boost. good point!

Did you not read his post clearly? He said he's going to bore it to 84mm on a SLEEVED block. You can go beyond 84mm depending on which sleeves you get.

you didnt get what the guy was trying to say go read again. you can [freak] up sleeves they are bulletproof they have a limit but most just never reach it.

he can change the timing down low to compensate.

8:1 = more boost safely.

Never knew it was safe to push sleeves past 84mm even if they are aftermarket sleeves * not saying your wrong, i just wasn't aware * . But the only time i see this being extremely beneficial is in a all out drag car build, and with the OP looking for no where near that power why not run 81.5mm then when that setup is shot go to 82mm etc? Then if any issues arise xxxxxx miles down the road you got plenty of room to play with.

You don't NEED to go 84mm at all for your goal. And 9:1 will be fine for you as well. I started at 83 to leave a little room incase something happens and I'm 9:1 and will make right around 600whp. You're over-compensating, 300whp isn't very much. And also you would be cool on stock GSR cams.

Thanks man My min goal is 300+ whp but i want 400+ whp no more then 500 tho. i always go over board on my builds just to be safe and make sure i don't go skimpy anywhere. just a force of habit for me. please this way i leave my self open for room to increase power if i ever want to.

theres nothing wrong with overkill protection it saves money in the event of some bad later on. get some benson sleeves and call it a day get anything between 81-83mm and you will be happy also 8.5:1 cr is golden

Now that i got my internals taken care of can anyone let me know what is a good turbo to use. I don't want a turbo that i dont need to cut a hole in the hood LOL j/k i want to run about 18 to 20 psi like i said i'm new to the turbo life so please be kind with the responses. look no less the 300 whp but looking for 400+ whp o by the way i bought a hondata s300. for bolt ons i already have 70mm skunk2 throttle body and intake. the head work i have done is port and polish 3 angle valve job cower titaium duel springs, cower titaium valves and titaium retainers. everything sounding good so far for a turbo build?
