Default LS/VTEC Monster

I'm a hair away from going ahead on a monster LS/VTEC build.
Will include:
Laskey Racing benson sleeved B18 OR Evans-Tuning Stage 2 B18 sleeved w/ manley rods
Fully built Skunk2 B16 head
**WHAT CAMS TO USE?**
Skunk2 I/M
Skunk2 70mm throttle body
GT3076R
Topmount manifold
Precision 1000cc injectors(or bigger ???)
AEM Fuel rail
Walbro 255
S300
Hondata 4Bar
Stage 3.9 Axles
Beefy *** clutch(not sure which one yet)
3" Downpipe+exhaust
Hasport 88A mounts

I want to make at least 400-500whp on a daily driver, I want a sleeved block for future potential AND better daily driving reliability for the block's life. I will be running 91 Octane daily, will I need meth to hit 400whp on 91...?

What transmission do you recommend I run? OEM gearing?
Bigger than 1000cc injectors?(what do you recommend, precision?)

Any further tips or suggestions please let me know! I have built a D-series this summer and its not enough for me at 250whp

You can make your HP goal with GSR cams but for a little more torque pick up a set of ITR/CTR cams.

You can run a stock transmission but I'd install a LSD. But it depends on how much you plan to beat the gears.

I think the stage 3.9 axles are excessive. Again, unless you really plan to drop the gears the stock axles will do just fine in most cases.

You also don't need the AEM fuel rail.

Check out a stage 2 or 4 Competition clutch.

If you are going to daily the car, I would NOT go with the 88A mounts unless you like the rattle of EVERYTHING in your car. I have the 75A Innovative mounts and I feel like any more rattle and I would not drive the car.

Also, I made 450 on RC750s around 88% duty cycle. If you are planning for more power later on down the road, larger injectors cannot hurt now. Also, this was on GSR cams. I would have went with the ITR cams but ran out of funds when it came down to that and was ready to get the car running.

Like cleansi said, what about E85, 1000-1200 ID injectors along with some Brian Crower Stage 2 turbo cams? Not saying you have to do as I but thats what I plan on doing in the future. Just a thought for you...

I am running a Comp Stg. 4 clutch and it holds just well also

X2 on the teeth rattling 88A's even the 75A's for every day use, I run the 60A Innovatives in my daily & they are very tolerable and engine flex is quite minimal.

I agree, you don't have to get new cams but if you do go with Skunk2 tuner series. Their pro series is overkill unless you go with a 35r. I made 489whp on a 3076r, precision 1000s, stock GSR head, and E85. Run stock axles until you have issues. Ive been on oem axles for 5 years. Put that money towards an LSD. A fuel rail is not needed at all, 1000ccs are a great choice. You can make over 500 simply by upping the base pressure. Do not consider a stage 2, I wouldnt consider a 4 either. I have a sprung stage 5 competition clutch and love it. Easy to drive and holds 500hp no problem.

A Stage 5 clutch is overkill. They are rated at 300% increase in torque capacity. You'd have to make close to 500ft/lbs of torque to need a clutch that stiff. Realistically even a Stage 4 is overkill; you'd need to make at least 400ft/lbs of torque. Now, with that said, some people just like have a clutch that grabs hella crazy. With the price difference minimal, it's up to you, but you don't "need" a Stage 5.

Sorry but you don't know what you're talking about. First, have you driven a car with a sprung stage 5 competition clutch? It doesn't grab "hella crazy." I find it very easy to drive. Second, find me one person making 500ft/lbs without a twin disk. A stage 5 would slip right away. Do some research... The most torque people have had any luck with is low low 400s. Mine has a good amount of ware and Im at 340tq.

"8k miles and about 30 1/4 mile passes.... It Slipped last time i was at the track. Max tq the clutch ever saw was 320tq..."

Here I'll help you:

Call Comp Clutch on the phone. When I called them to inquire about going with the upgraded pressure plate or not, the lady that answered the phone was VERY HELPFUL! She said she drove a 425hp '00 Si and has the Stage 4 w/ standard pressure plate and loves it. I found them helpful when I called, do the same and see what they say
