LS safe for low boost?
Hey guys,
I've been looking around the board for amonth or two (am a newbie still ) but I've been scouring the local wreckin yards in search of a B18 to start my boost project on. After reading about the (very limited though) cams, intake manifold change, etc I've decided to go with a '94 or '95 LS bottom end (or so I think). My questions stand in the CR of a stock LS (and later a LS/vtech) being able to hold under 9 psi of boost on the high 10's of compression... how long should I expect it to last and maybe get a few ideas on upgrades.
Rich
Main point, will a stock LS put up with 9'ish PSI with a proper EMS?

9 psi? on what turbo. It could do probably 15 psi on a T25. stock LS blocks can hold over 300 hp if well tuned, keep reading.

Yes I am sure I could get away with that for a while, but relaibilty is key. Im trying to figure out a setup that I will be happy with on the way to work and at the drags.
Im figuring 9'ish psi for the sheer fact of the high 10's CR on the engine, that coupled with the relatively small turbo I will use. Any suggestions are welcome.

Re: LS safe for low boost? (SJcivic)
from what ive seen and read and DOING
i didnt go cheap bought everything new and i got the hondata. one thing i hope you've learned is that tunning is extremely important. just try to find a turbo that will meet your needs. which im not very good with the sizes and stuff. if you have any other questions just ask

What Hondata system are you using?
Rich

Re: LS safe for low boost? (SJcivic)
im using the s200b. the s100b works just as well but you can use the other options that come with hondata later on if you decide to tune yourself, which i dont plan on tuning myself ever, but oh well the s200b is only $50 more? im not sure.
i think it took about 2 hours to get my car tuned. i hear shops usually charge around $150/hr for tuning.

Car runs and idles great. Soon enough I will be tuning at 15psi once I get my new Intake Mani on. I have no clue what my fuel pressure is at cause I'm running a stock fpr without a guage. When tuning your car you can set the duty cycle and so forth.
Also, the reason for buying the 1000cc's is because hopefully my built motor will be going in soon and then fuel will already be taken care of.

The O-ring on my boost controller was bad when I tuned and it was bleeding off, so I'm not sure what I'm really making. But after my tuning session then with a completely stock ls (stock IM, stock fuel rail, stock fpr, etc) I made 270/240. My turbo is not really in its efficiency range and now I'm gonna be putting on my new mani, I already have my inline pro rail on and I'll have my new trottle body and lower charge pipe on for the next session. I just hope to put down around 300ftlbs of torque this time. My lower charge pipe is only at 2" right now
