Im sorry im going to have to disagree. Im currently using a usdm itr trans and traction bars with around 300+hp (depending on boost level) and i pretty much hook in 3rd gear with kumho spt street tires.

You WANT the shortest geared tranny possibel if you want to accelerate the fastest through the 1/4 mile. All i need is some Drag Radials and a lil throttle modulation and im good to go on the drag strip. Even on street tires i can just modulate the throttle......

Ive been daily driving the car and love it........

The shortest tranny that can keep you in 4th through the end of the 1/4 mile is your best bet.

I rev to 9k so my b16 tranny can hold my 121-122 mph traps no problem through 4th

it really is up to you
is it a street car or race car
thats all you need to know
street car you would want the ls 4th and 5th gear so your not at 5k all the time on the beltway
like i said UNDER 300hp you want short gears cuz it will be FASTER
over that your gonna want longer gears to hook better
b16 trans WILL put you in 5th gear through the traps though NO MATTER WHAT
but like i said the ls drops you back in the sweet spot for tq which is what you have not top end

So slow the car down to get better traction. Sounds like a stupid idea to me. Why not just make less power....oh because you want to go faster.

Invest in a boost by gear boost controller, better suspension, tires, etc. to compensate for the traction problems. Don't do it by slowing the car down.

I am running an ITR tranny and trapping 149 mph in the 1/4. STOP posting bad information if you have no clue what you are talking about.

sounds like you don't know **** here we go typical honda-tech ****.

your nut understanding ****!
not slow your car down to go faster use your ****** brain dude.
with low hp and a b16 trans that gearing is goin to make the car spin, and when the car spins imo the car is movin cuz you can hook it.
but if you take that same low hp with the ls trans it will slow you down b/c of the looooonnnngggg gearing, youll put the car in 4th and it will pull but not as hard as 2nd or 3rd. thats all im saying
i don't know but <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by GetawayInMoscow &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">The shortest tranny that can keep you in 4th through the end of the 1/4 mile is your best bet.

what motor are you using??
I personally have used both trans, and i am currently at 480hp with a sleeved gsr motor and if the other guy wants to run his mouth thats fine but i go 10.80's at 140 with a gsr trans and i love every bit of it if it was up to me id say use the gsr but EVERY setup is diff. stock not stock more boost, low boost
yes a short gear tranny WILL put you through the 1/4 faster but if it's a street car and yu drive it daily you don't want to be on the beltway at 60 mph and reving at 4k-5k just to go 60-70 mph
thats all i was tryin to say

agreed
also alot of people are forgeting that you need a tranny thats going put you in the torque range. this in return will give thrust an thats wut makes you go usually. you do this&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt; take your torque and multiply if by the final drive gear next divide by the shifting RPM and you now know what you need to do to adjust gearing properly. ( im not home right now so more to come later or ask BENSE )

lol
it isn't a time battle
i stated how the trans are and thats that....lol
the only thing i wanted to make clear that alot of people don't realize is that
when your actually using an ls motor, the ls trans shifts back to where the "sweet spot is" for the ls you gotta remember the thing only revs to 7k.
thats all
ill leave now since i have a slow car....lol

I have a turbo ls and I'm using a Ls trans with aftermarket LSD. I like the long gears on the highway but i don think the a GSr tans would be better for the drag strip.

Cmon man, thats like saying 4.10's wouldnt get you down the 1/4 any faster than 3.73's!!! Thats bullshit.......

If your looking to accelerate the fastest down the 1/4mile you want an itr or b16 transmission. If you dont have the add-ons to get the power to the ground (traction bar, slicks, adjustable suspension etc) then you arent taking the full advantage of your tranny........

If you take that same exact car, same exact power level but only the tranny was different, i guarantee the shorter geared tranny would be first to cross the line......

did we not say that a million ******* times already????

the only the people are trying to state that for a street car it will suck with being on the beltway
and like alot of other people said they like the way the thing shifts back to the sweet spot tq band for the l, vtec trans do not
but yes with the right driver the vtec trans is shorter and will put you in 5th gear goin through the traps before an ls trans
unless your ls trans is running a **** ton of boost

H2B is pretty intense but the gears are short. As for the noob, eventhough I know I'm one too, I'm building the same set up, GSR with an LS 5th is the best of both worlds.

you don't need to put in an ls 5th gsr 5th can do 80mph at 38-4k
that aint that bad, but whatever
