Default LS block aquired- time to build

so i got this b18a1 so cheap i couldnt pass it up. i dont really know much about engine internals, so i come here for advice as to what needs to be done next. a little background... this is going into a 99 si and i currently have been piecing together a turbo kit i have a T04E 60 trim .82ar, tial wg, drag manifold (i know i know) and some intake pipes with a hks bov thus far

anyways it turns over by hand and the cylender walls look ok to just need to be honed to get rid of some slight scratches (i think the rings are bad in one of the cylenders you can hear it moving around)

obviously i am planning on rods and pistons and possibly boring it over a bit but not if absolutly nessairy.

the only problems i can see with the block is this

and this...

but i figured a machine shop could fix it quite easily (but i dont know, some insight would be nice)

so my question is now that i have this new project whats my best way to go about making this a boosted ls vtec monster ie. what cr is good, what piston brands, rods all that stuff.

thanks-
Chris

getting the block decked would fix those scratches. maybe made when someone was trying to remove the headgasket...

Have the block decked, but make sure to note the amount of material removed. They are pretty deep.

I might suggest (considering your FI plans):
Clean it really well (inside and out)
Good components such as forged pistons, aftermarket rods, new bearings, headstuds, new oil pump, new water pump, new timing belt, new thermostat, ditch the oem breather for a Moroso/Cusco?or equivalent can........

Personally I'd have the engine sleeved but if your not planning on that amount of $$ and work, get the bores honed to the pistons per piston manuf clearance specs.

It's a good start, others will surely add some good suggestions of their own

You may want to indicate your power goals, rpm limit, what cyl head, etc that you are planning. That helps get better suggestions.

If it was my block...
pistons - JE or Weisco 9.5:1
rods - paulters (I like overkill )
Bearings - ACL or Honda
Vtec oil pump
Vtec water pump
ENDYN breather tank kit
GEM Vtec adapter block
and Proper blueprinting and assembly or course

pulled off the pan and took some pics of the inside of it...
also in talking to some locals by me there is a shop not all that far away that does eagle style sleves for 800 honed and ready to go.
hp goals? 300 at the wheels daily has a nice sound to it.

"eagle style" haha...that's like saying "I know a shop here that has Altezza style taillights!"

I wouldn't trust any generic stuff.

Was that block sitting for awhile? Looks like it might have been. How deep are those scratches?
