Just wondering why people tune at two different boost settings... (ie tuned at 7psi and 14psi).
Is the reason they do that b/c they want to get the most out of 7psi instead of just lowering the booost from a tuned 14psi map? Or is there another reason.
In my case is there anything dangerous about lowering my boost from 10psi to 7?

Lowering your boost should be fine. Shouldn't harm your engine at all. you can lower it to 1lb of boost if ya want.
Upping the boost should not be attempted though.....unless it's been tuned for the higher boost setting.

that's what I thought...
Still...why do people tune for a low boost and a high boost? is it to get an optimal tune to make the most power at the lower boost?

I dont think they tune for 2 diffrenet boost levels. They tune the car up till a certain boost level. Most the time they have 2 diffrenet setting of boost cuz of the boost controllers. They'll set there low boost to lets say 8-10psi and high boost to 17-20psi ect. I think you might be getting that mixed up.

if hes asking why have two different boost settings... then one reason - traction, low boost in 1st and 2nd, then you can switch to high boost when you get into 3rd.
Another reason, you dont want to run your motor at the limits every day, alot of extra wear and tear. high boost alot of the time is only when race fuel is used. and one more - 500 hp is ridiculous on the street.
theres more, but you get the idea.

I like Eric B's answer... it's not for pump or race gas either. I doubt there many cars that are making enough power at 14psi that would constitute the need for race gas.
I understand the traction thing but my question wasn't "Why have a low boost setting and a high boost setting" it was why TUNE for low and high boost. Like I said... Eric B answered my question.
