Love/Hate with Crower...
So I placed an order with Crower three weeks ago for a new set of rod bolts. I needed the bolts in such a hurry that I was willing to pay for expedited shipping, but it turns out that it only takes a day to ship from Crower to me anyway.
So I figured, great - the bolts would arrive after a day or two. But after five days and no bolts, I decided to email crower. Keep in mind, whenever I have a technical question, they will usually email me a response within the same day. But this time I sent them an email asking what the heck happened to my order, and I didn't get any response. Two days passed and still no response. So I sent another email and waited a few more days, and still no response. It seems like the guy in charge of answering emails went AWOL and never came back.
So then I started with the phone calls. I called them every day for two weeks just to seemingly get jerked around. The Crower secretary would claim she was routing me to someone that could help, but each time I was just redirected to an answering machine. I found out after a week that the one guy at Crower who's in charge of orders likes to leave work whenever the hell he feels like it. I even called at 3:30 one day and he had already gone home for the day even though he was supposed to be there until 5:00
.
Anyway, I just went through three weeks of bullshit. I left my name/number on the damn answering machine every day and no one called back. I left my name/number with the secretary (who claimed she would make sure someone called me back) and no one called back. Heck, even when I finally got ahold of the wizard of Oz that controls order processing, he assured he'd call me right back, then he hung up and never called me back
.
So after all this bullshit and fighting, I guess someone finally got their **** together because my bolts were shipped out yesterday and I received them today. Now here is why I ******* love Crower now: They forgot to bill my credit card! I'll keep checking my WaMu account every day, but I'm pretty sure I just scored a $100 set of bolts for free
.
Cliffs notes:
Crower customer service
Free stuff
Conclusion: free stuff > bad service and I'm happy (although my lack of transportation for the past three weeks has lead to a considerable loss of income...)

I would have just gone to a local shop and bought them after a few days of no customer service from Crower. It did take them about 4 days to answer an easy e-mail about the torque specs of their rod cap bolts. Why? Probably becasue they never showed up to work. Must be nice. Or maybe they put their hobbies before work becasue they needed bolts that took 3-4 weeks to get shipped
Also, the new bolts are different than the old ones.
The old bolts are black and say SPS on the head. The new ones are silver and say Crower on the head.
I hope the new ones are just as strong as the old ones. I know that Carillo uses SPS bolts that are rated at 280k psi, so SPS makes some good stuff. The new replacements are H-11 steel which is only rated to 220k psi (same as ARP2000.
At least the new ones are dimpled on the bottom!!!! That is a god-send. It was a nightmare trying to center my stretch gauge on the old bolts which were NOT dimpled on the bottom. Installing these suckers is going to be a snap.
