well if its an exhaust leak. i know where its at and there isnt much i can do about it besides taking the exhaust chamber off and have it milled or spray a ton of copper spray on it.. which im not going to do all that because of a ticking sound.

But it might not be an exhaust leak.

i had a pretty big exhaust leak and i could hear it as a ticking sound i had no clue it was exhaust related because it didnt sound like that...i was trying to find out where it was coming from in the head because it sounded like valves tappin or something but back on topic i guess by now you have checked for this?

i recently bought a 95 gsr with a built bottom end and jg pro series head. i was told about the ticking coming from the head and that he just thought it needed a valve adjustment . got it done and still ticked. took to my buddies shop and he told me i need a lost motion assembly ITR. HE TOLD ME THEY WERE EXPENSIVE AND from the dealership would cost about 380. i found a guy on ebay who sells them for 220 oem itr. thats about 160 less than retail.

Haha.... I had to pull mines out yesterday to see what was making the tapping noise in my engine. Found out it was the valves for me. Well, hopefully!

My engine ticks too....

I have a long like 3 foot long extension, I can put my ear to one end and touch the other end to different parts on my engine to hear the ticks... I'm about 99.99% sure it's just my damn DSM 450s... those things tick like a ****...

I watched SOHC_MShue's video, my car sounds similar.

Do the plug wire trick and see if you don't have a knock on your bottom end. Start the car and pull one plug at a time and see if it goes away when you pull it out. if you pull one and it goes away, try put it back on and see if it comes back. If it does, you have spun the bearing.

Well after 400miles of diving and my car still ticking loud as hell, I decided to take my car to a Honda dealer hear in Germany. After they did a valve adjusment and test drive, they said that the ticking noise was gone. Unfortunately when I started the car, it ran like **** and the noise was still there. Anyways I paid them a lot of money, cause their money owns the US Dollar, with nothing fixed. Me and the mechanic both agreed that it could be the injectors or valve. Long story short, I went and bought some Dura Lube fuel system cleaner and lubricant, put it in yesterday, and to my suprise the noise got a lot more quiet!!! Well hopefully it stays quiet. I can't hear the noise from upstairs in my apartment anymore. And Im not ashamed to drive it anymore either.

Just to add some input...

I put some DSM 450s in my civic and they didn't sound any different than stock... Maybe it's because they were balanced/blue-printed/whatever by landspeedracing before I installed them.

I have srock in jectors. I dont think the injectors is what's ticking so loud. I think it's the valves. I have KMS engineering valve springs in. Way stiffer than stock. I'll just have to deal with it I guess. I did a valve adjusment 3 times and honda did it 2 times.

Default re

It could be

Injectors
Valves need to be ajusted
Valves bent but u say the car runs perfect
Timing belt- possible- it does it on my friends

I think he means it being a consistant tap, not a click, because he says it does threw all rpms, and your IVAC doesnt open and close when you give it full throttle. ya know.

bearings- possible- due what he says-&gt;<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by V-SPEC 1 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Do the plug wire trick and see if you don't have a knock on your bottom end. And exhaust leak- look for black spots on the head where it could be leaking, even on cast parts it shows. when your motor is cooled down, have some one start it and you put your hand around the exhaust and turbo and see if you feel a leak or just go and do what he says, hell of a lot easier--&gt;<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by dustin &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Get one of these:

good luck

I agree with most everything 97blackcivic said. Do you smell fuel in the car or in the engine bay? I once had a cracked injector and ticked pretty loud and you could smell the fuel pretty good. Also had an exhaust leak that ticked REALLY loud. I just took the gasket off and mated it straight metal to metal. Noise was practically gone. Just my .02

its not the injectors or valves or iacv or timing belt. i checked for exhaust leaks around the manifold and greddy elbow and didnt feel anything. i even bought i mechanics stethiscope and could not pinpoint the tapping noise at all. havent tried the spark plug test, will do that next. still leaning towards a exhaust leak from the greddy elbow...
