loud ticking...
since ive installed my turbo, i have gotten a really loud ticking noise. my engine is in perfect condition. timing is dead on and valve adjustment is dead on. but i hear this loud ticking noise, everybody asks me about it, heh. now i know honda engines like to tick a little, but mine is a little loud. my car runs great and the head is flawless. i have checked all the valves, springs, etc..

What kind of manifold are you running??
I konw that switching out a cast manifold (stock header or turbo) to a tubular design will amplify the normal valvetrain chatter

Yea man I had thought I had a loud ticking coming from my motor too. I listened around and it wasn't coming from the block and definintly not from the head either(which also ticks loud from my zex cam, but it wasn't the same sound). Then I listened towards the back of the engine and it definintly was coming from my dsm's.

I have a ticking driving me nuts on my car. Turns out to be a small crack on the underside of one of my primary tubes. It actually only ticks at idle and when accellerating, it goes away when cruising, because I guess the scavenging is pulling gas in instead of pushing it out?

here is an old vid of my engine if you want to compare it to your ticking. Just to let you guys know my car is super loud from the zex cam as well so don't think that my valves are messed up or something .

It sounds like your valves are tapping to me. Do a search for "vavle tap". Maybe that should help you out a little more. I just rebuilt my motor and it is making the same tapping noise. The cam might be making it tap like that also. Try doing 2 more valve adjustments. But I think if you have a HP cam in, it's going to tap.

ahh dont scare me like that.
i have stock injectors and cam so its not that. and besides the noise is most audible from the front of the engine/manifold area. ive already rebuilt my head and did 2 valve adjustments. it was making the ticking noise before i did that. it started doing it once i put my turbo on. im also thinking it has to be exhaust leak. ive noticed that the surfaces on the manifold for the exhaust chamber and the greddy gaskets wherent the best. the surface wasnt perfectly straight. i believe if i remember right i had a VERY VERY small gap. have to check it out.

Re: (ramennoodles)
start it up and kinda put your hand down there see if you feel air rushing...and after a while it will get black around it so that will help if its a leak...

well yea thats obvious but if ti was leaking it would also be loud as hell right there. so loud i wouldnt of even heard the ticking.

what exactly does a spun rod bearing tick sound like? How long does the motor normally last after spinning a rod bearing with the usual beating on the engine?
