Lots of oil coming out of the wastegate dump tube
At first I was trying to find out why I am burning oil, then I come to find out there is a ton of oil in the waste gate dump pipe. There is no oil in the charge pipes.
I am thinking about doing a leak down test, but is there any other way to find out where my problem is? Could it be piston rings? valve seals? Turbo? How do I find out if its the turbo, or the valves? If the valve seals are bad, there is going to be oil in the turbo exhaust side, so I won't know how to check.
I have a feeling yall are going to say leak down. The thing is I planned on taking my head off soon to install arp studs and put a new head gasket, and rebuild the head, but if the piston rings are done for, I will just rebuild the motor.

Travis, it could be the turbo seal or valve seals.
First do leakdown/compression testing, if the valveseals and or rings are that shot, the tests will show it with misserable results.
Next check out your oil return line and try adding a restrictor to the feed like I suggested before.
If the oil is severly blowing past the turbo seal, it could get backed up into the manifold and wastegate.

Re: Lots of oil coming out of the wastegate dump tube
Ive been thinking, how could oil go from the middle of the turbo and out the dump pipe? (its not routed to the downpipe) Its the opposite way of the exhaust flow. My dump pipe is coated with oil, and the downpipe is actually clean, with NO OIL in it at all.
Also noticed my return line was very restrictive, and horizontal at one point. Could this have caused the problem? and how could it cause oil to be in the manifold/dump pipe? Can anything be damaged in the turbo? Also looking inside the exhaust side you can see oil in there too.
Notice the burnt caked oil that leaked

I already took it off, trust me it was too long, it was horizontal at one point, and actually looked like it sagged below the tap in the oil pan, probably because hot oil sat in there.
And now I think, that even with it being horizontal and even with a bit of sagging, I don't think that would keep oil stuck in the turbo, the rubber hose is about a foot long from the return to the tap in the pan.

well i'm no longer burning oil. Seems like the restrictive return line was the culprit. I will check the dump pipe periodically. It was burning oil at first, then it finally stopped.

Re: Lots of oil coming out of the wastegate dump tube
My car was doing this about a week ago. Fresh motor just tuned smoking like a champ. I knew it was valve seals since I tested the head. My return line had oil on it and also on my center section of the turbo. Smoke has stopped now but the corner of my pan is covered in oil and also my control arm. I still think it's getting pushed out of my dump tube when I run it hard a few times.

Deja vu, saw a tad bit of oil come out between the turbo and manifold earlier. If its there when I go back down there, I know its still leaking. I also have a lot of oil on the drivers side of the block
