Lifting Head issues: D16
See I was fine with a bone stock motor at 200whp, but now with close to 300whp, it was lifting, I just put on a new OEM gasket as i blew two cometic's, and will do about 10 heat cycles, then re-torque and see what happenes. I talked with boosted-hybrid about it, and he gave me some tips.

i had the same problem with my head lifting on my d16y8 turbo running 14psi, it blew 2 headgaskets , i never used arp bolts tho, maybe that was my problem, i even tightend them to 65 ft/lbs, , so i ended up scrapping it for an ls
boosted-hybrid basically said 65ft-lbs recommened was no way near enough. Most of his block he builds were set alot more as he has seen race teams go up to 95-100 ft-lbs. He also said cometic is a hit or miss for sealing. And recommened 10 heat cycels, then to re-torque. So, I've switch to OEM HG, it's a 75ft-lbs right now, and tomorrow after it cools down( had more than 10 heat cycles), i'm re-torquing to 78-80ft-lbs, then turning the Profec B back on and seeing what happens.
EDIT: I'm not saying everyone should do this practise as I have been told you can stretch the bolts, however, I'm trying it out as the other ways didn't work for me.

Mine are at 65 ft lbs right now. After hearing that I am considering retorquing them to 70-75 ft lbs.

IT is holding 18 PSI so far. I will keep you updated to see if it holds.

Guys, remember, these are smaller studs. 65 should be sufficient. IMO
I still think there is somethign else wrong. Let us know how it goes EL!!!
Good Luck!!

well after 10 heats cycels, only one stud actually moved, and only a hair. Went up to 80ft-lbs and none of them moved. Actaully got on the throttle lastnight and to my surprise, the head has not lifted..yet. Keep you posted as I beat the car more
