Default Lets see some turbo bracing / brace setups!

Looking for some ideas on bracing a topmounted turbo to relieve pressure from the head flange... something attached to the factory p/s mounts most likely..

So post up pics of your turbo bracing setup (or whatever you wanna call it)

A properly designed manifold does not need bracing.

Also, due to thermal expansion rates, you must use the same material for your braces as you did for your manifold. Using mis-matched materials can lead to compression/tension and actually cause stress risers in the manifold increasing your chances of failure/fatique.

So a 304 stainless 16ga tube and a .250" thick 304 stainless flat piece will expand and contract the same on a manifold?

A proper brace with support the weight of the turbo from a heim joint, relieving the manifold from supporting the weight, yet allowing the turbo/manifold to move freely when it expands and contracts.

So I see you want to get in depth with this

There is a right way to do it... and a wrong way. You know the right way. You Ricer.

sorry i bring no pics, but i am to looking for some type of brace for my topmount..
the manifold ive got is a peakboost and the way it angles the flange at the collector it looks like using some flat stock or angle iron u could mount it from the p.s. bolts on the block or the ac comp. bracket..im thinkn of just using a longer bolt when bolting the turbo to the manifold and bolt the bracket on it... ken(at peakboost) has asured me that a brace is not needed but ive had bad luck with stirpping the threads out of the head, so any little brace/bracket has to help.. ibepostingpicsificomeacrossany...

Well... the bracing I assumed he was referring to was the OBX style braces that just lead to trouble. I completely overlooked the heim joint types as listed in the thread. But most manifolds such as the full-races, love-fabs, etc do not come with braces and don't require them. True... if properly designed like the type that tony has done it will definetely help the longevity of the manifold.

I know I was just busting your stones. Some of the more elaborate manifolds such as the sidewinder or hytech turbo manifolds require bracing unless you want a 75lbs tank shearing off your exhaust studs.

yeah i just thinking of a brace going from the p/s mount to the hotside or something like that....

what is a heim joint?

yup. this is a 'post your braced turbo setups' thread not a 'leave turbotime a breadcrumb trail of hints so he can build and post his own braced turbo setup' thread
