...not necessarily true. intercooler matching charge pipe diameter is best case scenario. changing a pipe's diameter mid-stream will alter velocity, bernoulli principle shows relationship between velocity and pressure are inverse. increasing diameter can result in INCREASED pressure. increase in pressure at intercooler would make me believe that the turbo has to work harder to pump through it. this is theoretical, i dont have any personal test experience on that.

weird stuff huh?

The Bernoulli equation only applies for certain values of the Reynold's number. This would be true in a liquid traveling at intake velocities but it is almost negligible in a low-pressure gas. In this case, the boundry layer effect is much, much more prominant. I actually mistated, two 2" pipes would flow more like one 2.5" pipe.

im no engineer or dynamicist, but from what ive read about critical flow venturis it seems greater than neglibible in degree, and is also supported by the gains from venturi merged collectors (transitions/megaphones) in high end headers.

now that you mentioned an error in your previous post, i just realized that it says two 2" ... i first thought you were saying go from 2" to 3", which is what i was against. i think dual inlet/outlet would depend a lot on the tanks, but i really dont know much about it.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by beepy &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">If you really wanted to improve the efficiency of a larger intercooler, why wouldn't you use end tanks with two 2" inlets and outlets instead of one 3" inlet and outlet? The flow would be the same and it would ensure equal pressures throughout the core. Maybe its just too hard to make the pipes all fit.</TD></TR></TABLE>

this is a good idea acutally because this makes the air utilize the entire intercooler more efficiently...if the end tanks are done right

this will alllow the air to go through the whole intercooler more evenly spread out than having single inlet/out near the top or bottom, or even the middle for that matter

basically what you would want to do is have two 2" inlets that were centered on the intercooler, say 4" from the top and one 4" from the bottom...from the turbo, you would have one pipe 3" that branched smoothly to two 2" into the intercooler...that way there would be no restriction and no fitment problems

then you could use the same set-up reversed on the exit side of the intercooler or you could use one 3 1/2" or 4" pipe...using one big *** pipe is only beneficial if your throttle body is also very large

I probably will try something along these lines

end tank design honestly doesn't matter..

I asked the quesiton earlier, and he said it depends. Which normally means endtank design doesn't matter on a 200-350whp street car which is most boosted cars on HT are..

so with this debate about entank design, you guys are just fooling your self.

that is probably true of 200-350 whp applications, but I am not going for that

so your going for a 450-550whp?

even then, a off the shelf endtank will work, you will see minimal lost in HP...
