Keep the D or get B series!!!
I currently have a d16z6 with 162,000 miles w/ greddy kit w/ intercooler/ bluebox. Boost is addicting and I want a little more. I just bought a tranny and currently have an ACT clutch installed. All the basics. Now that I have to rebuild I was thinking about a b18b and building that. That would be nice to have and I'm really looking for something mild. I just sucks to have to start over with a whole new turbo kit and getting rid of all my SOHC parts ie clutch/ and tranny I just bought for cheap. Any suggestions... I'm wide open. It's not my daily driver/ my other car is the R. Best of both worlds NA/ FI.
If it was me i would go ahead and get the B18b, There is more potential witht eh B18. I love the torque in mine. You should not have to do a whole new turbo kit, just some mods and a new manifold.

I was in you shoes once. Keep D or go B. I went B. Granted the tourqe is nice and all but in hindsite I would have kept D. I think of the woes I had and the money I spent on the B to get it running and running right. (B parts aren't cheap) I would now stay with D. Just build the **** out of it.
I blew my motor once and a shop charged me like $3000 to fix everything. Knowing what I do now, if I blew a D series, I'd pick on up for a few hundred and just fix it myself no problems and just a little out of the pocketbook.

D series isn't THAT bad, but you won't regret the swap and besides the manifold there are just minor changes you have to do to use your current turbo setup. BUT, I wouldn't use that Greddy on a B series, you're not going to be getting the most out of the motor with that small of a turbo.
EDIT:
Come to think of it, I have an awesome swap for you to buy...everything you need!! It says I have over $3200 in it but it's more like $3600.

Here's another way to look at it. Do you notice how many people are running built up B series? All those guys are going to beat you no matter what you do to your D series (assuming that have a properly matched turbo, etc). If you don't mind that, build the D series. There are still plenty of cars you'll be beating, but the number of fast 4 banger cars on the road is quickly increasing. You don't want to get spanked by all the spoiled brats who's mommies and daddies are buying them WRXs, Cobra Rs, Supras, etc.

Thanks for responding to my post. My D series is starting to knock really bad now. I was just waiting for it to happen, 7 ~ 8 psi daily on stock internals with 162k. I was just considering my options. If I rebuilt with rods/ pistons, valve train, injectors, and hondata I want to push that little greddy to it's max and maybe upgrade to the 16G turbo. If I go to a b18b I would probably keep it stock and run min boost...but I have to get rid of my current setup...I guess I'm at a cross roads. I wish it was easy because I hate wasting money.
Rebuild the D. I'm building a new D16Y8 block to take the place of my current one. It's cost around $1200 plus I'll have to buy gaskets still. It will hold more boost than the stock $3000 B swap would.
build the D... turbopanda internals... and use the leftover $$$ for tuning... he ran that setup in his 4 door civic and he said he we beating stock supras and evos (if i remember correctly)... btw, i am also planning this budget build for my crx...
If buget it a concern build the d with strong internals. If you've got a lot of $$$ build up a B18, it should be better in the end with more cc's. I think a built d with a good engine management system and a LOT of boost would make good power. But nobody seems to want to spend the money on it.

Nobody wants to spend money on it because in the end you won't be the fastest. What these people don't realize is that if you build your B18 you won't be the fastest in the end either. There will always be someone faster.
D Series is cheaper to maintain and build.

I have to agree with what RyanCivic200 just said...I can't say $$$ is the issue. It's just hard for me to justify spending more money on a different setup when I can keep the current setup and have it solid. The greddy is a good starter kit with nothing done to the internals. I really just want to beat the snot out of a WRX/ or be able to hold my own. Like I said before I'm not a drag strip person and I'm not looking for a specific 1/4 mile time. I just need something solid... The b18b would be nice but the more I think about it I don't think it's necessary for my applications. Besides there's nothing like the darkside...no matter which setup I choose. My R is great but there's something about the sudden rush of boost you get from FI. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
