Just mesured my main bearing clerances, one is tight???
Ok all my clerances came out good except bearing # 4 is showing .0010 clerance, acording to Helms manual its within spec but its border line cuz the clerance should be .009 - .0017. Should I replace that bearing or will the tight clreance be ok?? I don't want spun bearings, I did everything right, I ordered the right Honda bearings and did every thing by the book.

It MIGHT be okay. You have to keep in mind the Honda tolerances are for a "normally" driven vehicle. If you plan on revving much higher than factory redline, you may want resize that bearing.

good question, I should be starting my build in a few weeks when the block gets back from the shop... can't wait to see the answer.
I would also like to know if the tolerances change for a high hp build?
If so, how can we find out what tol is right for our setup?

It's going to be a turbo 2.0L, so the numbers will be pretty high hopefully. I'm going to plastiguage them again and see what happens.

Also make sure that there isn't even the tiniest spec of grit or anything between the bearing shell and the cap/block. You might also want to have someone mic that crank journal and bearing cap to find out which one is off.

If its in spec its fine. Honda is smart, honda has awesome clearences comparative to other manufacturers.

Re: Just mesured my main bearing clerances, one is tight??? (Br1t1shguy)
Ok, I remeasured it(cleaned the #4 cap aggressively) and it all came out good. But now I noticed that my #2 upper main bearing has a speck of dirt embedded in it so I had to order a new one and I will pick it up tomorrow. Also, my first attempt at gaping my rings failed, I gaped it to .035 and made the ring useless have to order another one.

one thing that you can try if you get a little too tight or too lose is this,
Try to change one bearing color, Just one bearing. For example, if your bearing code calls for black and it's a little too tight, try to take either the top or lower bearing and use the brown one instead, so instead of black/black, now you have black/brown, a little looser.
I run split bearings on my motor and I get .0015 on ALL cylinders.
just a thought,
Stan

Yeah, all of mine are around .0015 except #3 is around .002, but the helms calls for a looser clerance on that one anyway so im happy with that. Thanx for the help everyone!!
