Default JRSC installed.. now small problem UPDATE.. please help.

installed my jrsc in my 89 civic si with b16 friday.

using vafc hack.
pr3 boost timing retard chip
dsm 450's
bkr7e ngk plugs
motorvations stepper pulley. gettin 9lbs of boost

The Problem
when the engine warms up real good.. and i hit boost in 3rd gear the engine boggs.. my a/f guage still reads rich. and the vafc still reads boost which leads me to believe my plugs are shot? I'm using cheap d series plug wires.. which i'm sure isn't helping.

as the engine gets hotter and i drive it more. it starts to do it when i hit boost in any gear. runs fine in vacuum but when boost hits it boggs.

no check engine light.

any ideas?

I would make the assumption that you are running too rich. Have you had it tuned???

your plugs are gapped to large!!! gap them to .34 or so... even lower if you have to.. be sure to get a couple steps colder plug to.. man your car is gonna be SOOO Fast..

they are gapped .30 not tuned yet.. probably tuned with wideband next week

afc settings are -40 1k and -36 for everything after that.

most likely too rich.. it kinda runs like it did when i had cams and a mugen chip.. would start up and bogg.. had to kinda gas it in the cold mornings.

was your map throwing a code?

gonna put new plugs and maybe wires tomorrow. if that solves it.. then i'm off to tune asap.

I think its your pink spark plug cover thats causing you to bog. If you switch to a carbon fiber one that will give you 5-10hp.

But seriously, try leaning it out a little bit and see if it improves. Big question is: is you AFR gauge hooked up to a wideband?

not hooked to wideband.. which is why i don't wanna lean it out.. but do you think it is because of running rich.

i will tune with wideband asap. but for now.. plugs are cheaper than a motor.

I doubt it will help, you most likely have a (lack of) tuning issue.

kinda OT, but ive always wondered how well the pulleys fit on a 4th gen, upper pulley and the crank pulley, did it require any extra denting? i hardly have any clearance as it is.

the pulley sticks out the same distance as your stock b series alt pulley would. the pulley is twice as thick, but the alternator is pushed back to make up for this. check my sig for details...

Maybe its your DSM they some times give you a jerk or two due to their injector characteristics.

i think my plugs/ cap / rotor may be bad.. now that i think of it the cap and rotor are over a year old and the wires are el cheapo crap.

anybody agree?

well a year old for a cap and rotor isnt bad at all unless you drive 50,000 miles a year. the wires may be hindering you, but i'm sure it wouldnt cause the bogging that you're describing. but i would recommend getting some new plugs with the correct heat range and gap them to the right spec just to eliminate this as a possibilty.
