Step 1: Remove wastegate actuator arm from external wastegate (somewhat optional)
Step 2: Weld internal gate flapper shut
Step 3: Buy a manifold with an external gate and treat your turbo like its not internally gated
Step 4, 5, and 6: Celebrate

Just so i got this right..

Remove internal wastegate...

Weld flap shut...

and then continue on as if it was never an internal waste gate?

Is this correct?

Is there any concerns to doing this that I should be aware of?

Did you mean internal gate for the first step?

To the OP, as long as the weld has a good seal, there shouldn't be a problem

Yes, Sorry I ment internal lol.

So it shouldn't just be spot welded.. There should be an actual beed all the way around the flap?

Well after looking at my turbo and seeing that the waste gate it's self is going to be a B**** to pull of I am going to attemp to just run it internal. But if for some reason it wont work for my app then I will attemp to mod it to External.

The reason its going to be a B**** is because the waste gate unit is actually attached to the turbo housing. There is no actuator rod, Just the waste gate housing to the turbo housing

Unless you're trying to go with less psi than the WG opens (or far above), I'd just use the internal gate. That WG has an ideal placement in terms of boost control. The reason most internal gates suck is because the hole is small, and [almost entirely because] the gasses have to make a sharp 90* turn to exit. In your case, the gasses are funneled into the port, then 90* into it's own seperated area.

Its only a T3 (50trim if I was to guess), so it would be no more than 275whp max, and low boost is almost not worth it. People worry about creep because 2-3psi can make an extra 40whp on some turbos. An extra 2-3psi on that turbo could hardly blow up a D15.

Thanks for your input, The reason I was going to go with the external was for easier tunning (of the turbo) I was not to concerned of boost creep at all. I am how ever going to use this turbo to its max. I was hoping to be able to extract all I could from it, An your right.. It's a .42 .48 50 trim. From what I could dig up on this turbo the waste gate is set at 7psi. I how ever am going to run more then this but with the help of a MBC. Thanks for you in sight ever one
