Default interesting new problem....

ok...so let me first start off by saying this is my first turbo'd civic...i have done a few swaps and deceided to try my luck at turbo set ups...with that in mind...i have a d16 with a mild turbo build up...i blew the head gasket a few weeks back and i was stuck in a place where i didnt really have a choice of doing the work myself..so i had someone do it for me...anyhow..everything is back together now...including a set of arp studs and a honda oem head gasket as well as having the head presure checked and the valves set....so here it is ..my problem...i know i have a leak somewhere cause it isnt building any boost....but i do notice that when accelerating i hear ( what sounds to be like a engine on bad gas) any thoughs on what this cold be?...it almost sounds like a pinging noise....but only under full acceleration....

right now i just have a missing link on it, i know i know it needs tuned correctly...i have mad plans to get it done with a tuner near philly...he has my new injectors and my conversion hardness and a few other things..i am going to go with a neptune tune i believe.....but my concern is that i hope i didnt do any serious mechanical damage when i blew the haed gasket...it never made that sound for the 8 weeks i had it together before i blew the head gasket...

Uh... you're running lean at full throttle and the engine is detonating like a ****?

That's certainly what it sounds like.

That or you're SOOO rich due to not building boost that the fuel left over in the cylinder is detonating in a non-combustion stroke...

Generally if you hear pinging it's not good...

Check to see if MAYBE your cam timing got set wrong when you re-installed the head.... that MIGHT cause the pinging but wouldn't really account for not building boost... but that could be as simple as a loose connection in the charge piping.

Good Luck.

Which D16? because 90pct of the D's cam timing gets set one way (align the front facing mark with the cyl. head) and the Z6 and I think maybe one other engine get set to differently (there is a tab mounted behind the cam gear where the marks need to be aligned to).
