Is it necessary? Hmm No, not really. Did I put a filter on my turbo? YES!!

The wire screen will only stop large pebbles from going into turbo. What about dirt and smaller pebbles? Do you really want a lot of dirt going into your motor? Do you want to risk the turbo getting messed up because of a little pebble? Better safe then sorry!

i agree, i always used the filter on the street. Now when i went to the track i would switch to the wire, i don't know if it really helps much, but that's just me trying to get everything i could out of my car.

the turbo application for the H series dont come with filters, well at least they dont with the drag gen 2 or 3 kits. i ran the clamp with fine screen mesh over it for a while and it was fine. its a little safer to do this on the H series since the turbo sits up so high, basically right against the hood. i ended up making my own filter piping and adding a filter though just for that extra sense of security.

i dont have nothing on my turbo but i got the H series engine

the B series where the turbo sits down near the block and of u run open dump tube on your wastegate i would run a filter
Or your turbine wheel will start looking bad real fast

I have seen cars suffer on the dyno from having no filter element attached to the turbo because of the location of the compressor on a B-series engine, which happens to be sucking air right in from a hot radiator. HP gains were shown when the turbo pulled air from the corner of the bay just behind the headlight, even with a "restrictive" filter on the extended pipe.

Use a filter.

I've seen a compressor wheel destroyed by this fine "filtering" method. Looks like someone put gravel in the compressor inlet.
