Default Intake Butterfly Plate Issue

I will be tuning my gsr this summer on hondata s200 with a p28 ecu. My problem is that i am under the impression that a gsr manifold has the secondary butterfly valves on a plate that open up via the ecu. (p72) is there any way i can make the butterfly valves open with the p28 ecu? What are my options?
Thanks,
Dan

I think you have to add some hardware to the P28's to allow them to operate the IAB's.

Check out these sites if you need to have you p28 converted to P72 specs:

if boosted not as important as all motor. but im no tuning expert so i would consult one about using them. IMO i would just leave them open. pullin the vacuum line does that.

I heard that taking the butterflies out would yield in much lower bottom end performance. Is this a different story for boost? I don't want to lose power by taking them out but if it's not gonna hurt that's what i'll do then. BUMP for more input.

yes you will loose a little low end OUT OF BOOST. those are there for the O.E. all motor setup. they help low end they open at 5800. if you have boost before that you dont need help getting air into the cylinders its being forced.

for the few ft lbs low end you will lose its not worth it IMO
and you will not loose power up top cause that is when they are not in use. they close under a certain RPM/load etc to help down low then open/shut off above that

cool so i'll be ok then just taking the plate out? I know i should be getting a new manifold all together and i will eventually but i'll be fine taking the plate out, correct?

i wouldnt even take it out. just leave it there and disconnect and plug the vacuum line so that you never have to worry about them closing. it does not matter if they are there or not as long as they are open. remember in boost air is being forced in so flow characteristics of the manifold is not as important as all motor where you need every bit of help you can get.

ESPECIALLY since your gonna do another manifold in the future no point in messin with that one it will work fine. I still use my IAB ( butterflys ) but only cause i have a GSR. i used to run with them open all the time but couldnt tell a difference so i hooked it back up.

The deault position of the butterfly solenoid is OPEN. It only closes when it gets power (the vac box underneith). So I dont think its an issue. A non GSR ecu wont tell it to close or just leave it unplugged or vac line unhooked.

just leaving them open will cost you some power... taking it out all together is much better than leaving the plate in there and open...

True but if he wanted to do all that work he might as well just get a good manifold entirely.

id take them out completely(like jdogg said) and just make sure to use a new gasket....ive done it several times... you will have to get new bolts or modify the stock ones to make it work
