Installing Oil Pressure Gauge Quick Question
Just wondered if you still need to use the stock oil pressure sensor plug or could you just cut the wires off and attach to the sender supplied with the gauge?
Thanks
Thanks

you dont have to continue using the stock sensor but you cant cut and splice the wires to the new one either. just leave the stock one or unplug it. but use all the wiring from the new sensor on the new sensor. where are you installing the sensor anyways?

don't you need a sandwitch adapter on the block to give the sensor oil feed. Then run the wires from your gauge to that sensor? Thats how I am doing it.

sandwich plate will work. or an adapter like the tuner toys fitting will allow for aftermarket gauge. mine is T'ed on the firewall. there are a few options but yes the wiring that comes with the guage needs to be used.

Thanks for the replys guys,
Basically im trying to install a digital oil pressure gauge but already have a t piece in the block for the oil feed to the turbo. The car ain't finished yet but wanted to sort this out anyways. So i can just un-screw the standard oil pressure sensor and plug and just use my part supplied with the gauge or am i reading this wrong?
Would like to use both but am running out of room.
It is a digital gauge so no oil feed is needed to it.
Thanks again

Re: (b16a4)
sorry to jack your thread but you might want to know also,
What wires need to go from the sender to the oil gauge itself. Is it just one wire or 3? My gauge has a + - and then another place where another wire goes to it.

So are we saying that the standard stock oil pressure sender & plug are not needed? Wouldn't that throw a cel?
All i wanna do is fit a digital oil pressure gauge.
Thanks again

Re: (Powelly)
im pretty sure you need to keep the stock oil pressure and sensor intact. Get a adapter from tuner toys to fit to the block and use that to have the original sensor on and also the digital one you just got. I am pretty sure you do not want to take out the stock sensor. I have the sandwitch adaper and the extra oil block adapter. Its not too expensive and you can find it on tunertoys.com. Ill have mine on this weekend so hopefully mine will get done and I can help you if you need any.

you dont have to keep the stock oil pressure sender... it is just there for the dummy light on your gauge cluster.. it comes on when your oil pressure drops to like 1psi LOL, but you may as well keep it if you can..

^^^ x2. you don't the stock sensor but you cannot use the wiring from it either. you want to hook up the wires that are supplied with the gauge. there are going to be 3 maybe 4 wires. power, ground, signal and maybe illumination (ign power). hook them up and you are set. no need to use anything from the stock setup.

im actually intalling my digital gauge too and was wondering the same thing, thats how i came across this thread.
Since im turbo i need to have a T fitting anyways, so i cant use the stock sensor, but if its not plugged it, will i get a CEL? and if i do is it removable in chrome?

you will not get a CEL. the stock sensor simply lights up the warning light on the dash, which doesnt even happen until like 2-3psi. i have not used mine in 3 years, defi gauge is taking care of my oil pressure monitoring.

Re: (aleks77)
For mine, I used a TunerToys fitting, kept the stock sensor, and installed the turbo line and the gauge sending unit.
If you leave off the stock sensor, nothing bad will happen. I left mine on because i needed something to plug the end hole in the TunerToys fitting.

i got the tuner toys fitting and it has 3 exits, and mine also came with 1 metal plug, so im gonna plug one, use the other for turbo and other for defi gauge.
I rather get rid of the extra wires/connector for the stock sensor, less wires in the bay the cleaner
