Inline Pro crew and affiliates....fuel management setup?
I see so may of you guys running the FMU, 440cc injector, and AFC set up. But the question is how exactly is this set up and tunned? It seems to me that at certain boost levels or part throttle you would be rich if it was dialed in for full boost and full throttle.
Once the initial tunning is complete can you increase or decrease boost with out adjusting the AFC?
How is the drivability of this set up and do you feel it would work well on a SOHC?
Thanks for the input.

on the AFC you can tune the car for wide or narrow throttle so narrow throttle would be off boost highway driving and wide would be under boost. since you are in pittsburgh you can come check out my car. I am runnin that set up and the car is being finished now so in the next week it will be on the road.

Sam? .... its Denis
Are you running the fmu? Advised from Inline Pro on the set up? I heard you have the head gasket and block too.

Re: Inline Pro crew and affiliates....fuel management setup? (DDD)
yeah denis it is me. I have a cartech FMU, 450's, fuel pump, and vafc to control fuel. I am just goin my what jinxproof told me. he definitly knows about everything you need to know about the way inline pro sets up their cars. I do have the block gaurd and HG too so we will see in a week or so. the car is at hybrid now so it should be done soon. friday we got the block gaurd in and jay probably put the head back on yesterday....I would suggest a cartech fmu cause it is adjustable so you don't have to mess with the calibration and what not. I can go from 4:1 to 12:1 on my FMU

with the 12:1 fmu, 440's, and afc, you can tune the motor 2 different ways. either have it tuned for street use and pump gas or track use and high boost/race gas. for instance, on a stock b18c1, add a 3mm head gasket, and fmu/440's/afc, you can run either 300 - 320 hsp on pump gas or have it tuned for high boost, like 18 - 20 lbs and run 350 - 400 hsp depending on turbo used. unfortunately, you can't switch back and forth without completely resetting your afc and adjusting fuel pressure......but if you know how its supposed to be set both ways, you could reset it each time you change your gas. the set up works.

i always kept my settings for race gas and just drove around rich on pump gas. wasn't a big deal. didn't have MAXIMUM horsepower on pump gas, but thats not what pump gas is for. lol.

Jinxproof can you give me some examples of where to set the afc prior to tunning w/ a wideband. Also how is the transistion into boost? Overly rich? Stumbles or smooth? Also do you think that smaller injectors would work beter on a lower boost street only setup or on a SOHC? I keep bring the SOHC thing up because I have a few friends running them boosted and they want more out of their setups.
Thanks

denis george has a set of 370cc injectors from a 1st gen auto DSM if you know anyone that wants them.....
jinxproof- what would you guess is "safe boost" for a B18C5 with the fuel set up you used on pump gas and inline pro HG and block gaurd? I know that you can't give me an exact but I just want a ballpark figure. also, what should my EGT's look like? I have a greddy 18G kit by the way.

a smaller injector or smaller fmu disc. keep the 440's and go with a 8:1 disc. better transition into boost. if you mash the gas with an fmu(on a 1.8 liter) your gonna stumble/bog. there is a learning curve to this set up. i wouldn't want to say exactly where to put your settings at, but i remember mine being close to this with a b18c1, 3mm headgasket, inlinepro t3/4 turbo kit, fuel pressure @ around 54(i think, i can't remember, it was 2-3 years ago, somewhere between 50 - 58 i'll try to remember) and the 12:1 disc, fuel pump, 440's, and afc, try something like this:
for an 8500 rev limit:
throttle points @ low - 75%, high @ 89%
0000 - 1000 -35%
1000 - 3000 -20%
3000 - 5000 -16%
5000 - 6000 -12%
6000 - 7000 -10%
7000 - 7500 -7%
7500 - 8000 -3%
8000 - 8500 0
remember, this was done on a dyno, was not exactly those figures(it was 2-3 years ago), and everyones set up is different. just the difference in the trim of a t3/4 turbo will change these settings. i used settings similar to these for 20 lbs of boost on 116 octane. i ran 93 octane at 12 lbs of boost and just ran it rich. you could use these setting easily for 10 lbs until you got to a dyno as long as everything else was working properly.
i am not responsible for my memory, your success, or your FAILURE. go to the track/dyno!!!!!

I thought when using the VAFC to control fuel that the ancient FMU would no longer be necessary. Have any of you ever seen this link?

Re: Inline Pro crew and affiliates....fuel management setup? (eagle2)
Karl, your throttle points are way dif than mine. Is that bc you tuned it for race gas or should my throttle points be similar to that as well?

Re: Inline Pro crew and affiliates....fuel management setup? (Elite Hatch)
my throttle points were for race gas. everything was tuned for race gas and 20 lbs. my throttle points might have actually been 79% and 89%

you have 3 choices. sleeve it, leave it stock w/non vtec head, or stock w/ vtec head.
for stock block and ls head i would do the following for 300 - 320 hsp:
stock ls block
stock head(no porting) add springs and retainers
remap ecu to 8000 - 8500(wherever you feel comfortable but retain the stock map)
440's
fmu
afc
255 fuel pump
basic t3/4 turbo kit(inlinepro or rev hard prefered)
skunk2 intake manifold
b16 or gsr tranny
shouldn't have a problem getting 320 or more with race gas.
or get hondata if you prefer that route and you won't need the fmu or the afc.

jinx, did you prefer the skunk2 over the JG? would the JG be more beneficial, if you're planning on revving the poo out of it?

Any suggestions on ignition timing with this setup.
Using a BTM, base timing and retard rate suggestions.

i would use a JG only if i were reving 9000+ rpm's. i would NOT use it on a LS set up with non vtec head.
