Do bronze valve guides really wear alot faster than oem valve guides?

Thats what ive always heard.

Id just stick with OEM...its what Honda engineers used, so stick w/ the proven stuff.

I also heard that the oem guides dont dissipate heat well and crack. Causing damage to the head.

Hmm...I've never heard that.

I mean to each his own, but what I do know (at least on a z6 head) that completely stock heads have been brought to over 400whp. That would include the guides as well...so I can only assume a GSR head (im guessing) would be even stronger

a little OT: i bought Ferrea bronze valve guides about 5-6 yrs ago and never got them installed when i had my head built. they're still sitting in my desk drawer at home. the machinists said they'd cost a lot to install so i didn't do it. i'd say go for it, bronze is good stuff.

I'm just curious because everyone i talk to has mixed opinions. I specifically wanted to know about the Inline Four Bronze Valve guides cause those are the ones I ordered.

bronze is a softer metal so its gentaller on the valve stems, bronze is also a very good metal to use for lubed metal to metal moving parts which is why people use them.

...And nobody said anything about this. No **** they didnt, thats why its important to research everything before you jump into something. Regardless, I backed up my information regarding what HE used with 400whp single cam motors....BOOSTED! Duh..what did you think I was talking about NA? Omg you're stupid...

A turboed vtec?....hahahah oh god. Ill just stop.

Yea, but that wasnt the point.

Dude up top said Honda never made a turbocharged car w/ "vtec" (sorry, i find that funny). So J-spec just showed him one

on stock valve there is no need for bronze guides.

ive always heard that stainless steel valves make oem guides crack. so thats why on my 84mm ls vtec turbo i use bronze guides. im using rev stainless stell valves.

however if i were to use stock valves i would not have bronze guides installed even with a high horsepower engine.

you dont need the guides. but for piece of mind i would get them anyways. you dont want to be driving you car and wishing that you would have put in the bronze guides.

The topic obviously focused on 01 back where where this motor didnt exist and or could be put in a 90's Honda.
