Default Ignition timing difference in summer vs. winter

Hallo,

i have a question to all the tuning gurus... when i make a ignition map on a dyno tune lets say in winter (5°C ambient i.e.) how much security retard do you apply to the map so that the chance of detonations is minimized in summer (30°C i.e.)

just to get an idea... i know it depents on the fuel so lets say 10:1 CR and 98 octane ROZ and aprox 14psi of boost.

Thanks
Malte.

You don't retard the base map, you should use a "Intake air temperature vs. Ignition" correction table.

At 70C/160F i've 2° and at 80C/180F 3° retard.

If you retard your base ignition map by 3° you will loose some power all the time.

For some reason I don't think they have any correction factors. I would just go off some datalogs and make sure when you are going up in IATs you pull a few degrees out, this is best done on the dyno anyway.. It is almost like driving in the summer when you are on the dyno, atleast where I go because the temps are very warm inside.
