Ignition suggestions.....
Well I about finished piling up my turbo parts but I am still in need of an ignition....I have heard stock is ok but who knows....what do you guys recomend for an ignition setup??? I don't need the ***** out top of the line sh*t, just a good solid upgrade over stock. I am looking to push 500whp on race gas. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,

I was just going to post a similar question myself. Everyone locally laughs and insists I need to atleast upgrade the stock coil to something like an MSD cap and coil. Yet a bunch of guys on here swear by good old OEM ignition.

OK...stock it is....the only thing is that my distributor is kinda old....what OEM parts do you guys recommend replacing to get it in tiptop shape??? The internal coil..??

Yeah, I used to say stock as well, until I actually hooked up the MSD, and immediatly noticed smoother starts, better idle, better mileage (29.7MPG turbo'd GSR untuned), and the plugs look very very very cleaner than the stock ignition plugs.
Couldnt hurt could it......?
I would rather have peace of mind.

OK then what is the bare bones MSD then??? Like the best bang for the buck ingnition upgrade? I mean if I can get it for similar cost as stock I might as well right?
Thanks,

that's basically what i'm running right now, but with the Magnecor race wires instead of OEM wires. the Magnecor will be replaced soon, and i was thinking about using a new set of OEM plug wires instead of getting another set of Magnecor. but i also thought about the aftermarket ignition system's stronger spark etc and if the the OEM wires would work well with that.
now i think i may go with the OEM wires for my new set, since some use the MSD ignition systems with the OEM wires and get good results. i know the suppresion is better on the OEM wires, but i'm curious about the conductivity when compared to MSD or Magnecor wires?
is there a limit to what the OEM plug wires will handle?

The stock ignition is great but it won't support 500 whp. I'd say get msd cap, coil, wires, and a 6al or 6btm. The btm is unneccesary if you have a standalone engine managment which you probably will for 500hp.

I have a 6ABTM w/the blaster 3 external coil in my 99 si, and I am happy with that, but go with what you like, I wouldn't go with stock plugs and wires ... I suggest magnacor 8.5mm wires at least and 1 heat range colder plugs for any boosted car.

I disagree. There are people turning over 500whp on stock ignition. There are people turning motors to 11,000 rpm on stock ignition. There are people that will be in the 9's this season (very low 10's so far) on stock ignition.
Stock honda ignitions are amazing.

My 2 cents.
I run the MSD6BTM and Blaster 3 coil. I noticed the same things noted above, smoother idle, faster starts, etc. Even better gas mileage.
I don't doubt supporting 500WHP on stock components if the engine is tuned perfectly, but it is safe to say that any design that has an internal coil configuration will ahve a shorter lifespan since all that coil heat is trapped in the dist.
personally, I think honda dropped the ball on that one. The internal coil ruins the dist components after some time. That is why ignitors die quickly and CAS take a crap. If Honda did the external coils, their cars would be better. it is a minor annoyance.
If you car has an external coil, you can disregard.
