... ignition issues with vafc hack
... are there any ignitions issues with the vafc hack?... using the vafc, there are no controls for timing... so do i need to get an ignition retard like the msd btm?... or will the stock ignition timing be alright?... if anyone can help out with thoughts, numbers, dyno sheets, i would really appreciate it... thanks for schoolin a newbie... btw, does anyone have dynos comparing before and after switching from using an fmu to the vafc hack... please post... thanks...
You should defenitely do something with timing. There was a post showing how the hack runs a lot of advance compared to where you should be with a Hondata or other standalone. It will be in the archives now. If you can't find it e-mail me at ddurran@rogers.com and I will send you the graphs.
well. because of the timing issues, i ended up selling my vafc to save up for a hondata. is ignition timing really that big of a deal? because i've seen a lot of people running this set up and have heard only good things about it. well i guess it doesn't really matter now since i already sold it but, just need some closure so that i'll know i didn't make a stupid decision.
You do run a lot of advance because when you are boosting, the ecu thinks you are still in vacuum. Anyway, the hack runs rich which helps to fight off detonation. I have heard of several people getting a bit of detonation on hot days using the hack. Still better than an FMU though.

just get something ala BTM to cover it, but all this is still a bandaide to a standalone..
