Default I was reading Maximum Boost and...

Corky Bell says that "a proper turbo car operating at 10 psi boost will do 0-60 in two-thirds the original time." So that means if we cranked the boost up to 10psi on any SIZED TURBO on a gsr, (which runs 7.1 sec 0-60 mph stock) it should theoretically be able to run 0-60 in 4.97 sec at that boost level.

hahah...well people on this board have been saying that his book is informative and very technical. So I'm not sure if that comment is BS.

Not everything is true in that book.

Yeah if you look at the graph that shows how much boost you can run given compression and octane it seems pretty off too.

he probably rated them on the safe side so he didnt have to worry about engine builders sueing him for making them blow motors

RWD and traction.
exacctlyy
FWD doesnt really workout out in most equations/theories.
Especially the formulas online where you enter just the weight & hp, and it'll tell you the 1/4 mile ET ..heh! works out given that the car has slicks.

The book is a good starting point but does lack some important information and at times leaves you wondering where the complete formulas are.

I think this may be a nice graph for older cars with less advanced combustion chambers, worse fuel control etc....many design features can lower the detonation threshold.

i thnk he is just generalizing...remeber he does refer to porsche engines and race built engines as well.....every car is different.

"a proper turbo car operating at 10 psi ......So that means if we cranked the boost up to 10psi on any SIZED TURBO on a gsr, (which runs 7.1 sec 0-60 mph stock) it should theoretically be able to run 0-60 in 4.97 sec at that boost level.
NO

And like they said, its a generalization. Also the RWD V8 plays by a tad different rules

That makes sense, generally.

The problem is people here somebody make an opinion from their years of experience and take it for a "fact".

Generally, I would say that is true.

10 PSi will get you that much faster.

Our car at 10 PSi actually was FASTER than 4.9 seconds 0-60. But it had 322 WHP and did the quarter in low 12's with full interior, everything intact, A/C, etc.

He threw in a word in that book that is key:

"Done Properly"

A greddy kit on 10 PSI is definitly not going to be 4.9 0-60.

Those are my opinions.

Jeff

I have said this many times, Porky Smell's book is good for basic knowledge and understanding of turbo dynamics but you have to spend a lot of time wading thru V-8 engine derived opinions that are being passed off as facts.

My turbo definitly took off 1/3 of my 0-60. 0-60 on stock LS is almost 8seconeds. my 0-60 on 10psi is very low 5's. maybe a high 4 w/ traction.

also, look at his statement. A PROPER turbo car. Proper. as in Properly sized turbo. not any ole turbo. Corky Bell knows whats up and that book kicks ***.

for not taking into consideration of what "proper" meant.
