i have a small crack in my turbo
will this effect the performance? the crack is very small and it goes all the way through to the other side of the wastegate flapper valve. it does not not go all the way to the flange on the side that mounts to the manifold. heres some pics.

Re: i have a small crack in my turbo
What a retard its a 1g talon turbo 14b. Its a very nice turbo for single cam. Were making 220 on a complete stock single cam on 9lbs. Now we got a boost controller were going to up the boost. Its a DD car in an ef hatch and it pulls real hard.
Anyways the td05h is notorious for cracking exhaust housing where the WG flapper goes. Ours is cracked all the way to the flapper but holds a consitant 9lbs. You can have somone weld it to prevent further cracking, or you can just run it. Just have a boost cut off for saftery incase it does spike.

Re: i have a small crack in my turbo
14b is a pretty nice turbo for a single cam motor. Easy to find, cheap, and matches well for a cheap DIY turbo setup.
That crack doesnt look serious at all. I agree, weld it, or just keep running it like it is. Shouldnt be a problem.

Re: i have a small crack in my turbo
thats funny because if you look on the bottom portion of the wastegate actuator there is a mitsubishi symbol because it is a genuine mitsubishi heavy industries turbo.
not saying anyone here is wrong about the type of turbo it is, but i thought it was a 16g from an evo III?

Re: i have a small crack in my turbo
I had a crack around the wastegate flapper on my greddy 18G. Who knows how long that thing was there, but I still put it on after knowing about it. I'm sure you could find another one cheap.
There must be a flaw with the cast or location of the flapper because it is a common problem.

Re: i have a small crack in my turbo
it seems like a bad design to me. there isnt much thickness to the iron there, and on top of that, my turbo is ported and clipped. i guess that made it even thinner and more prone to cracking.
