hydro-focked. Please help
Well I was driving from MD->NY in the rain and about 180miles into the trip the car just bogged bogged and then died. I tried to start it again and nothing. No cell or anything, it just wouldnt turn over.
I pop the hood and everything looked fine. I pulled the plugs and 2,3,and 4 were fine and in 1 i found this:
YEAH SWEET! Spark plugs shouldnt look like that! Uh im pretty sure it got hydrolocked, i saw some liquid through the spark plug hole but i couldnt tell how much was in there.
I am going to pull the head as soon as I can to inspect the damage but i was wondering how bad you guys think it is? Will I be able to salvage the engine or is it toast? Also do you think metal shavings got in the turbo?
FAWK

I will say a prayer for your wallet. But unfortunately your engine is screwed.
That is some serious pressure. I wouldn't surprised if the rod bent, the head is damaged in that chamber from the debris of the spark plug, hole in that piston is likely.
If you have full coverage insurance they will cover the engine in cases of hydrolock.

im pretty sure i have full coverage, damnit!
this is not good.
I have a built engine too- im assuming that doesnt matter when it comes to the pressure of hydrolock?

I would say that looks like u dropped a valve. are u sure that the motor hydrolock.Pull the valve cover and see if any of the retainers are broke or if any of the valves are missing

Re: (turbotime)
Really depends on how much water you injested. But imagine how fast your piston is moving and how small of an area between your piston and chamber there is.
No lets say on the down stroke you filled that entire chamber up with water. On the upstroke, well your spark plug is evidence of what happens.

yeah i didnt pull the valvecover but i will tomorrow when i have some light.
I can definitely see a liquid in the #1 chamber which im assuming is water...
whatabout the turbine do you think its ok? is there a way to check?

I've seen cranks bend from a "hydro-fock"

damnit. well im hoping the crank is ok, is there a way to tell if its after i get it out?
If its ok i can just get new rods and pistons and a b16 block and still maintain the b17 stroke

well, you'll probably never "see" a bent crank. You'll have to get it check out by an engine builder. It needs to be 110% or you will have engine problems down the road.

Re: hydro-focked. Please help (yehiknowrite)
That doesn't look so much like hydro.... wouldn't hydro typically bend rods first?
That looks like a dropped valve... You'll need to pull head and I suspect the debris damaged both piston, head, possibly cylinder wall and will have probably damaged the turbine wheel.... so yeah... ouch.

thanks for the consolation guys, this really does suck, this car was my baby
well, i guess the only way to look at this is it cant be rebuilt, better faster, stronger!
Im going to pull the head tomorrow, and the turbo so stay tuned for more pics

after reading some more this looks like it very well could be a dropped valve.
Thast weird tho, i wasnt even on the throttle at all, just cruising at 80mph, 5th gear, 4krpms, about 5% throttle.
And then outta nowhere it just lost power and died.
well see tomorrow

Re: (turbotime)
The damage to the pl;ug would indicate dropped valve. However if you forced enough water into the motor it could have very well held the valve open and then the piston compressed the water and bam valve breaks and you have a plug that looks like yours.
Do any of the other cylinders have water in them? If not then perhaps a valve did just decide to drop and the rain is a coincidence.
