HX35 on a D16?
ok, first off, i KNOW it's going to spool late.. i know it's not going to be like a t3/t4.. just was wanting your opinions on what you think about an HX35 on a vitara built sohc.. if it's too big, kinda screwed now because i've already bought the turbo, and sent it off to have the twin scroll manifold made, but i've YET to find ANYONE using a HX35 on a D.. found one guy using a H1C doing 11psi, but noone doing a similar set up to mine.. has anyone??.. i've searched here, sohchonda.com, turbod16, youtube, streetfire, EVERYTHING i can think of... am i the first person using this turbo on this setup?
Hey slowhitEJ1, I was using an HX35 on my d16y7, std vitaras/TT rods, stock head and valvetrain, stock intake running 19psi
. I would see full boost at 5000rpm and would pull like a **** right to 7k, and I didnt even have a twin scroll
manifold. The HX35 is super heavy and it takes alot of space

there is a huge holset turbo thread:

Rota, you said they didn't follow thru with it.. any idea why?
i've alread searched my fair share of stuff, and i've read the ENTIRE holset thread AND the entire Vitara thread (slow day at work) and i asked about it in the holset thread also.. to no avail.. i've searched and stuff on here and other places, and read a lot.. i've asked around on sohchonda and a couple others i think, but no one, until now, has been able to help me out.. i've had a lot of questions, mainly about the timing belt and taking more than .040 off (thanks bigtuna) and i've asked for specs on the HX35, again, no answer..so i've just been reading and reseaching and stuff, kinda lurking in the shadows and figuring my own stuff out.. seems like you have to have 40billion posts and a 3 year member to get an answer around here.. of course by then you're expected to know EVERYTHING and not ask anything.. thanks for your help honda400ex and rota.. anyone else that wants to chime in feel free..

i'm probably going to lose rating for this, or get the thread locked, or get banned or something.. oh well, i'll wing it and see what happens lol.... but with ya'lls experience (i have none, first motor (awaits the flames
)) with a Z6 block, Y8 head, .060 milled off the block, (i'm trying to up compression to spool this thing), vitara pistons, twin scroll RLD manifold, zex 105300 cam, what do you suppose i'll hit full boost at if i'm going for 350- 400ish? also, would a valvetrain be worth the money to squeeze out the extra RPM's out of the cam, when using this turbo? i've heard mixed opinions on this.. thanks again

there is a guy with a lot of different screen names using a h1c on a vitara built z6block/y7head on 20 something psi. only made like 280whp but xenocron's dyno reads lower then most.
not some thing i would like. but with a purpose built mani im sure it wouldnt be so bad.

i run the h1c also... pretty much same as a hx35, just old-school and a hair smaller. don't know how much power i have, and your setup is fairly diffent than mine.. not sure what help i can be... my guess is about 400whp at 28-30psi for you. my spool is ok, power comes in around 4.5-5k in 3rd with my 12cm housing.
if you get this twin scroll made it should drop about 1000 rpm off of spool time. just a guess though.
i would get valve train if i could afford it and rev it out a little more. i wish i had another 1000 rpms. i use stock cam/springs, shift at 7200
do you have pics of your twin scroll manifold, i'm looking to get rid of my cast mani. do you have a number for the place who made the mani for you..?

16-18??? were not talkin b-series... i've only know of 2 cars to make 400 at 25psi, never seen one make 400 at anything lower....check turbod16.com's dyno list
i don't think MY setup will make 400 at 28 psi... just hoping for high 3's.
but thats what nitrous is for

on holsets? these things flow upwards of 60lb/min....find a gt40 equivalent and in about the same pressure ratios and itll give you your answer...hx35's arent your standard 57trims etc that flow 40-50lbs

I was never a fan of these 'types' of turbos though, sure it works like anything but how much of a deal is it if you're stuck with a weaker powerband or a crazy one off mani?</TD></TR></TABLE>
the work well for the price...the d-series is kinda way mis-matched but hey who am i to judge...my only problem was the sudden power onset...like traction isnt already a problem...
and one off mani's...i ran a std ramhorn...its just the comp cover is ridiculously massive!

I'd suggest you get everything done first w/o it, redline at 7500 max, then see how the powerband is. W/o anything better than a z6 or y8 intake manifold, you won't see much from adding another 1k onto your redline.
BTW you may have done the wrong thing milling the block. Back in '05 Jeff Evans proved that the only thing compression does is make each psi more efficient. He tuned/dyno'd a stock GSR, then replaced the bottom end with a 9:1 built gsr block & retuned. All it did was add 5-10% more power everywhere - after the turbo spooled. It followed the exact same line/ramp from 2k to 4500 rpm where it hit full boost. Its hard to say, but its possible the Vitara pistons may not take it. Sure they've done 400's before, but not on higher compression AFAIK. One thing that Evans was surprised at was how much more timing the 9:1 took, like 6-7* extra at the same psi.
Looks like you'll have to be a pioneer in the twin-scroll HX35/raised compression Vitara piston field.

pioneer is right just do it, who knows maybe youll find the next big thing. think about it who ever though of putting vitara pistons in a honda motor, worked out very well for the turbo car on a budget. good luck and the most important thing is keeping us all updated.

I was talking about how he is having a twin scroll mani made for it. If he wants to run say, a 60 trim or something in the future it's a waste. That's all.</TD></TR></TABLE>
tru...i never got to compare a true twin scroll to my eq-pressure manifold...but i filled down the divider on the turbine housing to aid in reducing the turbulence w/in the housing....but in his case tryin to spool it up he's gonna need everything on his side...
only problem i forsee...is if you have to go down to a smaller housing...they arent twin scrolled!!! but the std t3 inlet...but then again why would you run a hx35 w/ a 9cm housing...it just be better off matchin a proper turbo for the application at hand

i doubt chris said that, my Z6 eagle/vitara setup made 282WHP 240ft/lbs on a DSM 13G @ 20psi on his dyno, and Dr. D series can vouch for that
the dyno DEFINATLEY doesnt read low.

yes, he did. i jst cant find the fvcking post. i remember it vividly. he also said how one of his car that made like 300whp ran a low 11 at like 120 something. ill search around but i dont even remember what forum i read it on.
I know a guy with a 275whp NA civic (all-out race shell), and he's done low 11's and hes not a small guy either. Its all well documented. 300whp on boost with good tires/suspension/weight reduction/driving would make low 11's possible too.

Barf. y7 heads are trash.
Plenty of y8 people have hit 400 @ <25psi with 50 trim turbos. Of course a non-vtec head with stock cam/IM is going to eat large quantities of ****. Why is that surprising...?
