Re: how to prepare for turbo (jvithayapun)
That is kind of too general but from my opinion check compression on your engine then you are going to need a new clutch. And if you are not going with turbo kits that are out there then you got to get whole lots of ****.

Re: how to prepare for turbo (Quick 200k Mile Motor)
I second fuel system.
And if you want to prepare.
Prepare by having a lot of money when something doesn't go right. And trust me, someting isn't going to go right.

HAHA, I bring ramen noodles from home to work.
Hardly go out.
Drive everywhere in my 1989 Sentra I picked up for $300.
but it will all be worth it next weekend when the turbo kit finally goes in.

Basic maintenance?
Fuel system: Make sure all your injectors are up to par (may need cleaning). Change your fuel filter, check your fuel pump and fuel pressure.
Ignition: Two stage colder spark plugs are the norm. Check/replace cap/rotor/wires?
Things I did to prepare were to put together as much of the turbo I could while it was off the car. So this included all the oil lines, manifold to turbo, and layed out all my charge piping with silicon couplers ready to go.

Re: how to prepare for turbo (b18onboost)
Yeah,
when I put on my turbo on my car, I had
a beater:
This allowed me to .. well, still drive to school, and get to work. Also, I was able to drive around 50 miles away to custom fabrication shops to do piping work, and welding aluminum for me. Picking up high temp hoses for misc work, and getting a base fuel map so that my car would actually start when I installed my Hondata.
having a beater is very important.
I did my turbo install, nice... and SLOW so that I wouldn't miss anything. Made sure everything was done right, and separated the work. One day I did gauges, the other day I did the fuel managment, then hardware, then one day did the cutting and measureing of the piping.... etc... and stuff.
Took me about rougly 1 1/2 weeks to about 2 weeks to get my turbo fully installed, and running.
Don't rush the install, if you do, you are only asking for trouble.
Dont' feel like crap when something goes wrong, something WILL go wrong, and something won't go the way you were HOPING it would, so just be ready, and don't be down on yourself.
If you need help, post up here, and people here will gladly help you if you need it. When I put on my turbo, I ran into problems, and I posted up the problems that I ran into, and took pics so poeple could see what I had problems with, and within a couple of hours, I had enough replies to fix my problems.
If you do a search, and put down all topics created by Snafu-SI, you can see how many turbo questions I actually had when I was doing my own turbo instsall.
Just take your time installing the turbo, and do it nice and slow just to make sure it is right.
