How much is too much power for a Civic without Quaife?

How much is too much power for a Civic without Quaife?
At what point does extra horsepower become useless, unless you're on the highway or are drag racing at the track with slicks? I know Quaife will help, but I'm just talking about a daily driven car with no mods to the transmission and street tires.

True, but there has to be a point where anything above a certain amount of horsepower is useless in a street driven front wheel drive car. Most of the people in the FI forum are racers. Some cars may be driveable on the street with 400whp, but it seems to me most of that power would be wasted unless on a track. Let me rephrase the question. For someone who doesn't plan on drag racing, what is a good horsepower goal for the street?

I think 250 is good. If you have money to burn on fancy tires you might want more. Actually if you have money to burn on sticky tires, you would have money to spend on a LSD tho.
Of course, this is not a question that has a right answer.

check out azracemachine.com and look at their twintrac system. It works well and is much cheaper than a quaiffe

AZ Race + Machine's Twin-Trac looks like what OPM has been doing for years. Think of a Phantom Grip that actually works, and is made out of the correct materials so it doesn't frag.
Any testimonials?

i am a testimonial, it really works well. I had a spool before, but that sucks on the street. The twin trac gives the same effect but allows you to actually turn. it is a very good unit that come with different spring rates to adjust for how extreme you want to go. check out the site it should explain it i believe. I know two other guys whove used it on their low 11 second cars too.

My car was running good on the street at about 420hp. After that I could not get the car to hook even with 245/50/16 drag radials. I could run 2nd gear 35mph and up like that. When i was at full boost I would have to run 3rd at 60-70 up to get any traction.

I think I might be happy with 250, but boost is like crack. I'm sure eventually I'll want more, but hopefully by that time I can get something rwd.
Where can I read more about this "twintrac?" It sounds almost too good to be true for $225. Any articles? What are the disadvantages, and how much would it cost to install?
MotorMatrix, your car sounds like a handfull to drive. Was this your daily driver?

the twin trac would probably cost just as much to install as a phantom grip, not sure how much that costs. i dont know of any articles on it but i can tell you that it works. I get both my tires spinning at all times, when going straight. but i can turn too, something thats hard to do with a spool.

Re: How much is too much power for a Civic without Quaife? (chidoks)
ive only met a few other people who use it besides myself. The thing is that it is a local company here in az that makes them and they are not all that well known yet. I probably know of 3 other people who use it, and it is on their drag cars. If you look on their site you will also notice that they make motor mounts that are considerably cheaper than others on the market, yet they perform just as well, if not better. I'd say for the little amount of money that you'll put into a twin trac you should try it. It is 25% the cost of a quaiffe so you can't really go wrong. That is why I got it, but the good traction is just an added bonus.

I remembr something like that on, I think, JDMparts.com. They stopped carrying because nobody showed intrest. I agree with what someone else said, it's going to wear out your differential. Never the less, if your not pushing more than 300whp then go for. Although for more than that, go with a Quaife!!

you could pass it off as a phantom grip but i have seen nothing but success using the twin trac. it is NOT a phantom grip.

First there was CRE, then OPM, then PG, now AZ.
Q: What is the difference between the cheaper Phantom Grip Limited Slip
Differential (LSD) and the more expensive LSD from OPM?
A: Shane Portnoff answers-CRE and OPM make a limited slip, $650. The only
difference between theirs and phantom grip is they put clutch plates in
between the differential side gears and the carrier. The spring package is
sandwiched in between the two side gears putting pressure at the clutch
plates, creating "limited slip". Of course the clutch material will wear out
also, but that is replaceable and probably cheaper than a new differential
assembly. The phantom grip is just the spring package, so the friction created
is between the side gears and the differential carrier. The friction
coefficient must be kind of unpredictable plus the gears and carrier assembly
will eventually wear out. Also there will be ground up metal inside the
trans.
