Default How much do you pay for Machining?

Curious as to how much you guys pay for your machine work? I just got my block back and they raped me at $370! This is what they did

Boring to 81.5mm
Honing
Decking
Hot tanking
Helicoil threads (4) where the tranny bolts up

I mean thats a lot of stuff but dang $370? For just a block? Is that normal?

thats not that bad.

think about it

someone has to setup the equipment, between touching off tools, measuring, , doing the 1,2,3 block. running the equipment, etc (generally 25 an hour, at least at the shop i work at), they have to pay for tooling, equipment upkeep, etc.

and you have to
plus doing a helicoil is a bitch on a block, and they should have done a timesert, but w.e

370 for that is not bad. I would have probably had to drop 400-450 for that here in town at Edge Brothers but damn they do sick work so it's worth it.

Psh, that's a joke. You could ship it all the way to Earl, have him do the work, and pay to have it shipped back for waaaaay less than that.

Pretty sure. For me, he did the following for $320:

-Hottank
-Bore
-Hone
-Polish/balance crank (via Benson)

He wanted another $500 for a balance/blueprint, but I opted to do it myself. I think he outsources his machine work, so it gets done for cheap and he knows good places. But the blueprinting is done by him so it's more expensive. Also, it would probably cost about $200 to fedex a D shortblock from the East coast to Cali and back.

For the block or shortblock? That sounds like bare-block pricing.
