How long until rings fully seat on built motor?
whats up guys, did a compression test on my built gsr. 84 mm, 9.1:1 pistons (head has been milled some, figure around a 9.3:1 c/r) Motor has ~75 miles on it with street tuning (15 psi) as a break in. Compression was as follows:
1- 172
2- 180
3- 175
4- 182
I think these number look pretty good, but about how long does it take for the rings to fully seat? or are they probably already there?

i was under the impression that they will seat more with more miles. For instance people always talk about their motors getting stronger as they put more miles on it. I just have no clue how many

the first couple times you get in the gas and build some cylinder pressure your rings are going to seat.
and yes there is some truth to all the internal moving components wearing in over time resulting in small hp gains. but this is more of a thousands of miles thing and god knows i'm not waiting 1000miles to tune or race my car.

if the rings dont seat the first 20 miles then theres something wrong, when they seat, then ur ready for tunning.

there are a lot of variables in this. hone style, the grit of the honing stones, type of rings, etc. If youre worried do a leakdown test. itll tell you if your rings have seated
