how long do walbro's last??

Same with mine, and perhaps most other pumps out there. When your tank is low on fuel, it is no longer fully submerged in fuel and sound easily transmits outside the tank. With a fully submerged tank, there is always going to be lesser sound just like submerging things in water and you no longer hear them as well. You should hear for surging or sound fluctuations from the pump, while keeping an eye on pump voltage, etc... if you want to see if the pump is doing okay.

mine finally went bad after about 3 years. It started making some very strange whirring sounds unlike its usual loud whine. Fuel flow was still perfectly fine, but i replaced it anyways and the sound went away.

Their hard to ID now adays since the knockoff manufacturer's are getting so good at replicating the logo's and everything.

good to know the signs of it going bad, so we can get a new one before getting stranded somewhere one day.
i have a friend who had one go bad, but he used to run the tank real low on gas all the time, and i think ran it totally dry a few times also
