Default How long did it take for your maxrev manifold to start rusting??

I had it in my car for about 1 month, now the flange is already starting to rust.

WTF?

What can I do now to prevent it from getting any worse? Something that I can do without taking the whole damn thing off.

I had my APexi GT header on for 2 1/2 years, 2 winters, and it never showed any rust, and the flange was as shiny silver as the day I bought it.

I thought this maxrev Manifold was Stainless. Why is it rust already after only 1 month on my car?

the flange isnt stainless. i believe its mild steel. stainless expands and contracts too much, so if they used a SS flange, it may pull the studs off the block. someone correct me if im wrong, this is what ive read.

Yep, the flanges are mild steel...the bends are SS

Only sure way to stop the surface rust is to remove it from the car, blast it, and send it to Jet-Hot.

is there any way to keep a mild steel flange from rusting, other than the Jet-Hot coating?

as in a type of coating/paint that will withstand the amount of heat the manifold sees and keep it from corrosion and rust?

prolly not, but thought i'd ask anyway. what does it cost at Jet-Hot to coat it?

No paint that I know of....
Coating inside and out with Jet-Hot 2000 is between $150-200 usually.

damn! is that just for the flange, or are you refering to the entire manifold being coated inside and out?

that's quite a chunk of $$. thanks for the info though.

Entire manifold - inside and out It seems expensive but it is well worth it IMO

JcWhitney sell brush on paint that you have to back on. Its good for 1700, i am going to try it as soon as I can line up a shitty oven.

I've already talk to Jet Hot about coating a turbo manifold. I have been qouted at $120 for the manifold.

This is for their 2000 series coating rated up to 2400 degrees.

I had no idea that the flange was MIld steel on the Maxrev manifold. I guess that would explain why my flange is rusting, and the rest of the manifold has turned golden. I'm just way too lazy right now to take it off, besides, I like being boosted, and summer is coming.

I'll do it this winter. Since I will be parkign the car in the garage I minus well get the manifold coated at that time.

Another reason why I like the jet Hot besides preventing the outside rusting is that I have been told that Jethot coating it drastically reduces the surface temperature of the manifold. Which is good.

Not to mention that it keeps the heat INSIDE the manifold where you want it. You may even notice faster spool after Jethot coating.

FWIW, the maxrev head/turbine/wg flanges are machined out of 1018 cold drawn mild steel, not stainless.

racing stripes I wasn't expecting it with a SS mani, but I guess it doesn't really matter. I love my maxrev mani
