Problem with auto meter EGT gauges??? please read
Ok we have installed several of these autometer EGT gauges in turbo and supercharged Hondas. until the last 2 we installed they have all worked properly. with the supercharged cars we usually see 1300-1350 degrees F when at a 80mph cruse and at wide open throttle it will drop a little to about 1250-1275 which shows the fuel setup is doing what is is supposed to. Now onto the turbo cars. cruse is about the same 1300-1350 F. and when WOT comes on temps usually raise to around 1500 F. Out of the ten or so gauges that we have in the cars they all seem to act alike. Ok with that said on the last 2 installs that hapened to be in turbo cars the EGT's go through the roof and pin the gauge any time your on the gas. Now the only thing different that we have done is the routing of the wires. on the two cars that are messing up the probe wires go underneeth the distributor. we called auto meter and the probe wires are supposed to have between 40- 300mv. we checked this with a multimeter and it is doing just what it is supposed to do. the guys at autometer's tech department said that it might be getting a false signal due to induction from being close to the distributor. So to remedy that the probewires were wrapped in a SS sheath and then grounded to the body. The gauges still are acting the same and we have replaced them with new ones and have had the same crappy result. All probes are mounted in the #3 runner about 1 inch from the head. Can somebody help me??????????? thank you
