Default how important is a battery?

just wondering how important it is for cars with alternators to run a good battery. i see some people with an odyssey or an optima, but then i see others with just some wal-mart battery. of course, im taking about cars with no audio, speakers, that sort of things, mainly just weekend race cars.

thats about it. there is a good load on our charging systems, but goin down the track, the ac isnt on, the radio isnt on, thewipers or the rear defrost isnt on, so basically we have just the necessities on. and a good state of charge battery should do the job. you shouldnt need a deep cycle battery. hell i know a few guys, (domestics) that dont run an alternator. just charge the battery between rounds.

well the oddesy is a smaller battery if i remember, so if weight and space isnt a concern, then a good 40$ walmart battery is fine
i personally have a yellow top i got cheap from the interstate man.

I cant run at the track without my radio on, it throws me all off LOL.

But as to the topic, a regular battery is fine for a car with pretty much all standard equipment, you dont need a 800cca 65 series battery for a stock civic.

alot of people like the optima's because their sealed and can be mounted in any direction (sideways for example)

The other reason for a performance battery is vibration resistance.Having an internal short in the battery after tire shake can ruin your whole weekend.Having the car not start in staging for the final round because it only has 6 or 8 volts can ruin a whole season.

I use a lawnmower battery in my crx. It weighs half as much as a stocker.

If you have a lower compression turbo motor it shouldn't need much to turn it over.
