hooking up oil feed line questions
i did a search on this topic and found many different opinions. so i got some of my questions just sort of to confirm if i'm doing it right before i screwed up something so i hope you guys can give me some tips since most of you may have done this several times already and i'm just a newbie. by the way, the car is a 99 SiR so it's a b16 engine. here it goes...
- i read that the source for oil is the oil sending unit located beside the oil filter, is that the thing with the rubber boot and a single wire hooked to it, is that right?
- is the thread of the oil pressure switch in the b16 indeed a BSPT? is it also 1/8"?
- if so, are these the CORRECT parts i need to properly hook up the oil feed line for a turbo:
a.) 1/8" BSPT(female) to 1/8" NPT(male) adapter so the oil pressure switch is connect to the female side?
b.)NPT Tee so a.) connects to one side of this Tee.
c.)braided lines to the turbo connects to the other side of the Tee
d.)then i need a braided line or nylon line so the Tee can be mounted on the firewall, connects to the side of the Tee facing downward.
e.)then the other side of the braided line or nylon line connects to the female side of a 1/8"NPT(female) to 1/8"BSPT(male) adapter.
d.)then e.) is connected to the block where the oil pressure switch came off.
- are the steps correct and also are those the correct fittings needed?
- lastly, what is that 1/8"? the diameter of the hole of the fitting? isn't that too small?
sorry i'm really new at these so pardon my long post.

Re: hooking up oil feed line questions (_Endless_)
minimal restriction possible .....1/8bspt>1/8npt>-4an or 6 to turbo
at least a -8an or -10an for the return

Re: hooking up oil feed line questions (DA666)
here's my pic..
you need to use, 1/8BSPT to 1/8NPT adapter, then the 3 way Tee fitting, then the 1/8"NPT to (either) -3 or -4 AN union, then the line
I have shitloads of those parts in my garage, let me know if you need any of them...
the BSPT to NPT adapter are 7 bucks, the fittings are 4 bucks, and the Tee is 6 bukcs...
or whatever, I just have shitloads of fittings in my garage..

Re: hooking up oil feed line questions (_Endless_)
I WOULD NOT hook it up like that, after the block torques back and forth long enough, the weight of the brass T and sender hanging off of there can break.......loss of oil pressure, no oil, you do the math.......
Use a short piece of line off the block, then attach that to the tee/sender/whatever else you want on there.......
Just my opinion, but it's not that much more work and it's not worth the risk.....
