Default Hondata s300 USB connection

FIXED!

I feel like a dummy but I cannot get my computer to see my s300. I have an account on hondata's forum but I do not recall my user name, and all the ones I guessed were wrong. I emailed forum@hondata.com like it said to on the register page, but I got a delivery status notification error. I tried to re-register under a different name and got this error:Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 535 Error: authentication failed

I have an OBD1 GSR ECU socketed by a member on here, with an s300 from vendor on here also. I installed the latest version of SManager from hondata's site, and ran the upgrade USB drivers with no luck. When I use the Test USB feature, it returns an error that something is wrong. There is no LED illuminated on the board, nor does the computer pop up a 'new hardware found' dialog when I turn the key on. The CEL remains solid once I turn the key to IGN, so I am pretty sure the ECU is seeing power.

What factors could make this happen? I would like to think my ECU is good, I pulled it out of my own (running) car before it got chipped. I have a laptop with XP on it, and I am admin on it. I do not see the Hondata within the device manager.

I checked the ECU fuse, and I checked to make sure my main relay is grounded. Anything else? Feel free to chime in anything, including shorts in wiring. I redid some wiring in the interior but I stayed away from the harness with the ECU on it.

Please help!

Thanks in advance

Seb

When you turn your key to ign2 the board should have a green light. If it doesn't, the socketing was not done properly.

Thanks a lot for the reply, it certainly helps.

I will double check my chassis wiring and make sure the ECU is getting power. The ECU gets power on the yel/blk line, from the main relay... correct?

I checked the ECU fuse with a meter and its got 12V across it when the IGN2 position is active

If the ecu worked before you sent it out... and now it doesn't... it's most likely a socketing issue. If it's not, you have an electrical issue somewhere.

http://www.hondata.com/stech.html

With the key at ignition 2 (the position before you start the car) there should be 2 green LED's on the s300 board that light up.

I cannot accurately say the ECU worked right before I sent it out. The car ran two years ago and has been sitting since. I took the ECU out and shipped it off for socketing.

edit - hit enter by accident.

Where can I probe on the Hondata board to make sure its getting power? Would it be a wise investment to purchase the socket tester?

that would be a good ECU

Unless the car filled with water and u turned the key on or something crazy dumb like that,
But if it just sat, im willing to bet ur ECU was good.

I really doubt the ECU was socketed incorrectly, I sent it to a very reputable member on here I am ESD certified and sent it very well packaged in an ESD bag, but who knows... maybe somethin heppened

argh!

I got it... I feel like an idiot.

I went over lots of wiring diagrams and finally probed the correct wire. There was a short between one of the ECU grounds and chassis ground. I jumped the pin to ground and it worked
