Default Hondata Problem: Im stumped need some help

Well Heres how it started

Day1 (few days ago)

Im driving home from work and I get a CEL, I check the code and nothing, and then notice my hondata light is blinking so I know its a connection problem. So me and my friend go through all the wires, skunk2 harness, hondata interface cable looking for a connection problem. We don't find anything although I had problems with the interface cable before. So anyways the car is running, and my friend accidently pulls out the Chip doh. The car immediatly dies and wont run/idle. We call it a night and I head home. So later that night i'm messing with the chip and I accidently break two of the *****(later i foudn out it was only the stacker)

Day2) I take my Hondata 2b, skunk harness, to my friend Double121's house to start testing **** to find out what my problem is.
We test everything and basicaly all my **** makes his s200 blink. I know the hondata itself would blink because he has an s200 chip and i have a 2b box, but when we tested My cable it made his blink telling me the cable was bad.

Day3 I ask Jeremy to bring his car to my parents house(where my car is) to test his stuff on mine. Im still trying to do process of elimination to find the actual problem. We plus in his hondata/cable into my Ecu/harness and it works. So far weve concluded that my Ecu/harness/wiring is good the problem lies within the cable and the box. However the light still blinks because of the Rom not matching(s200/2b). At this point my assumption is my cable was the initial problem and we erased my map in the process.

Day4 I order hondata interface cable and have my map reburned onto a new chip

Day5 Today I installed a my new chip and I realize that I actually only broke the Stacker and not the chip, and I found that the two prongs were broken on the end. So this explains why the car actually died completely on Day1. I bought a chip for no reason , but owell I have an extra chip just in case.

Heres where things get wierd

After installing the new chip, my CEl goes away, but my hondata is still blinking. WTF!!!!! CEl is gone, and i can rev past 4 grand, car runs normal, boost feels fine, but the theres still a problem. I call my scientist Direp972 and troubleshoots it and says that the problem may be my J1. We decide that I'll wait until I get my new cable from hondata, but the way I see it is if the cable was still the problem the CEL would be gone.

5 minutes later I realize that I know for a fact that theres no problem in my Ecu because a couple days earlier Jeremy tested his stuff(hondata/cable on my Ecu/wiring harness and his hondata light stayed on. Meaning my ecu is fine.

Guys im sorry this was so long I just wanted to cover all the details.
Where i stand right now, I don't know what to think because nothign makes any sense. I am however gettign the cable in tomorrow or monday, so well see what that does but theoretically if that was the problem then I would have a CEL right now. At the same time my ECU is good

I dont know what to think

Cliffnotes

Im stumped.

Please help

Well I still think you might have a bad connection at J1. In my hondata manual(old *** rom editor manual for 2.5) it says,

"TROUBLESHOOTING:

The red LED on the Hondata interface is blinking, the engine check light is off, the car runs normally, or rich for cars with bigger injectors.

Likely causes:
-J1 has not been installed

Fix:
-Install it as per manual"

If Jarod was able to get your car to come back online just by hitting the ECU and jiggling the wires that makes me think its a bad connection. I say to wait until you get the cable from hondata, and if it still has the same problem(NO CELL/blinking hondata light) then we should have someone redo the J1 connection.

Also my manual is really old, so its possible there might be more then one cause to this problem. Does anyone else know?

I did use my new chip, funy thing was when we used Jeremy's cable tthe other day for testing, one of his wires popped out. He got it back in and after that incident he thinks my **** is haunted and doesn't want to pull his cable out again.

That was my next step, cable should be here tomorrow or monday. Well see what happens.

Oh btw I went to move the car in the garage a few minutes ago and bam CEL is back

Well im still waiting on my interface cable from hondata but I encountered another wierd problem today. I unplugged my current cable from the hondata and I was able to Rev it past 4k??

As of know when i get in the car the CEL is on, however after wiggling the wire a little it goes off and drives normal, but after noticing today that when completely unplugging the cable I still get no CEL, and it revs past 4k. I know if it was working properly hondata would go into safe mode and set the rev limiter at 4k.

So know I'm thinking My ecu isn't even recognizing the hondata and im just boostin on a stock ecu.
Hopefully my cable comes in today so I can see what that does and continue with this process of elimination.

Any more opinions?

Well we tested my Ecu with a friend hondata and his cable and it worked for him, so I know the problem isn't in the Ecu although hondata's troubleshoot says J1.

update now during my lunch hour I got the Cel to stay off and now the hondata light stays on, I got on it and it felt great. I think the wire may just be getting a good connection but I think it's still bad. Well see what happens with the new one.

Iggy I had the same problem remember...damn hondata light would just flash away...then go solid...the flash away again..no rhyme or reason behind any of it.

At first we though J1..then bad harness...then fried ecu..then bad cable.

Turned out it was the blue box that was the problem (credit Tony for finding that one). To make a LONG LOOONG story short Hondata had to replace my blue box with a new one...no problems since

Just a thought...

Yeah Jim I remmeber your problem. Im still waiting on my harness but the way I have everything positioned right now I fixed it temporarly No CEl and hondata light is on. When the CEl or flashing starts happening I can wiggle the wires, or push on the connector into the blue box and it works. So im 99% sure its the wire, the only thing we didn't test was my hondata, but I dont know of anyone local that has a 2b, so that's not really an option right now.

I will see what the new cable does, and if it doesn't fix the problem, the im certain the problem lies within the box so I'll just upgrade to an s200.

Wow...I thought I was one of the few with this problem. I was damn sure that my blue box was dying. Now I get no light at all when I tried it in a friends car. yay. It will be sent back soon...

i know this might be a long shot but make sure all the 3 clips from the harness are plugged in completely...i had that problem too and found my harness was a little loose. i also had problems with the interface box connecting because the J1/socket wasnt soldered good...try going over the spots again just to make sure connections are good...i know ur not getting connection all the time but when the interface box was cooperating did you ever datalog to see what the CEL was?
