Hondata Problem - Help Please
It is Sat. and no one is at Hondata.
I finally got my blown Transtronics unit back (they admittedly had a whole batch with bad power supplies).
This one seems to be ok. I am trying to take my car out and wideband tune but I have some issues going on. My burned chips work just fine--car starts with engine checklight going off and Hondata box staying lit.
When I put in the emulator, I can download a ROM but when I start my car, the engine checklight goes off as it should but the hondata box keeps blinking. Tried downloading different ROM files even ones which I had burned to chips successfully, still blinking hondata box. Car will start and seems to running a valid program, not limp mode. WHAT gives??
I am also getting Windows XP crashes on my laptop in RomEditor. I am going to try and install Windows ME instead to see if this helps.
Anyone have issues like this. Let me know ASAP please.
thanks
Torin

Sounds like your car is running in limp mode. See if you can rev. it past 4k? That happened to me once when I tried to download the Rom and run it off the laptop. You probably download the ROM but the ECU is not seeing it. The engine has to be off when you are downloading the ROM. The problem with that, if you running the laptop and the emulator off the power of the car; when you turn off the ignition, they lose power too.

why does my engine check light go off though?
I am running power direct from the battery to a voltage inverter. I take power for the pocket programmer direct from that so the programmer/emulator never lose power.

Well, transtronics is trying to help me out but the guy I need to talk to isn't in now.
Can someone look at their emulator and tell me how many leads go out to the chip socket? I count only 26 leaving 2 without connections. Is that supposed to be? Are the other 2 for power and that is why they are not connected?
thanks

Well,
figured a couple things out. The cuprit is my serial connection to my laptop.
Whenever I try to connect my laptop to the hondata via the serial port, it shorts something out and my ecu errors out.
WTF?? I have no clue as to whats going on.

Hmm, all 28 pins of the emulator should fit in the programmer, and the leads from the emulator should be inside your ECU. I think that might be causing the shorting of the ECU.

i run windows 98 and have no probs with the software. The programer is a different story. i have 2 programmers here, 1 will burn roms but will not hold a rom in the emulator for more than 10 secs. the other smoked when i plugged it in!!
i have another one on the way. hopefully i can get one that works. Car is up on the turbo as of today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, power supply has been an issue with these. My first one smoked first time I ran the emulator.
Well it seems it may be my laptop's serial port. I just borrowed a friend's laptop to see if it will work.
Another thing....
After I first boot my computer, whenever I start ROMeditor, it locks up and gives me a blue screen. If I closed the blue screen and restart RomEditor, it works.
Does this happen to other people?
