Default Holy crap, this sucks...have a wastegate question

well...I have a turbo miata....t3 super 60..the freakin wastegate arm broke off at the flapper..Im 99% sure it was just heat stress, because it was discolored on the inside where it broke off. heres my question: is the flapper suppose to be loose when the w/g isnt connected? Hopefully so, or else I might be spending $500 on a new t3...
Thanks guys and gals,
Nick

There should be very little play between the wastegate actuator and the wastegate arm, and little to no movement between the housing and the flapper. Unless you have a weird t3 housing with the wastegate cast with the turbine housing, you can just get a new wastegate housing for fairly cheap on ebay. Even if its a oddball assembly, any t3 turbine/wastegate housing combo from a volvo will work (although pre-91 volvos have a flat flange you'd want more). Turbine housing $75, wastegate housing $25.

Yes, the flapper will flap freely with no wastegate actuator attached. You can get a new actuator for cheap on Ebay.
