HKS Type 1 Turbo Timer Install
I had some trouble trying to find the correct wiring info to install the HKS Type 1 turbo timer. So this is a brief write up to help those people that would also like to know. The HKS Type 1 has 7 wires:
Red - 12volt constant
Green - 12 volt ignition
Blue - 12 volt accesory
Black - Ground
Gray - parking brake
Brown - RPM Signal
Blue - Speed Sensor
The cover on the steering column is removed (3 screws) and the Red, Green, and Blue wire are connected as seen in the picture. You may want to add a 10 amp fuse for the Red 12 Volt Constant wire.
Next the Black wire is grounded to a bare piece of metal on the frame of the car. The Grey wire is then spliced into the wire that is leading to the parking brake. This wire can be accessed by removing the plastic parking brake cover.
The last two wires must be spliced into the ECU wiring harness. To find the position of the RPM Sensor and the Speed Sensor for your particular car, check out http://www.apexi-usa.com/productdocumentation/wiringDiagram.pdf This is a diagram for the Apexi Rev/Speed Meter and will show you the position of these two wires. I also used http://www.apexi-usa.com/productdocumentation/electronics_safc_us_update.pdf to find the correct ecu pinout diagram for my specific car.
Since there are two blue wires, try it one way first and see if you are getting the speed readings from the timer, if not, just switch the wires.
For online instructions for the HKS Type 1, go to http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/hks_tt_type_1/index.html
