Help Needed quickly What valve springs and retainers
My head is currently at Endyne right now being decked due to warpage and getting Ferrea 1mm oversize valves, Porting etc. Well larry just e-mailed me and wants to know what Valve springs and retainers I want him to use. I have no idea to be honest. I am using the stock GSR cams in the head so what should I tell him. The bottom end is currently being built by Viren and was sleeved by golden eagle to 84.5mm The setup is Endyn pistons and eagle rods. Let me know what I should tell him ASAP. He plans on sending the head back to me monday or tuesday. Thats why I need to know ASAP

Re: Help Needed quickly What valve springs and retainers (18gTeg)
what is your setup gonna be?
what rpm limits do you want?
if you're using stock GSR cams with an 8K redline then the stock valvesprings are fine. if you want to raise the redline/fuel cut to 8500-9000 rpm for more power with a turbo setup, then you'll need stiffer springs to keep the valve from floating one way when it should go the other way. ITR inners are ok, but the Portlfow are much stiffer and can take very aggressive lift and/or duration cams. but you don't want to overdo the valvesprings cause crazy stiff ones aren't good either. retainers don't do anything cept reduce the weight for more accurate high rpm operation.

I was thinking off sticking with Ferrea for the entire head setup? I want a higher redline than stock just in case of a misshift.

Re: Help Needed quickly What valve springs and retainers (18gTeg)
as in Ferrea valvesprings and retainers also? they're good quality, but more expensive then some of the other brands. Portflow springs are good quality for not too much $$. that's what i'm using currently.
what fuel cut do you want, 9K?
if so then go with the good stuff, even if it's more $$.
my idea is to go with the best stuff you can get for the internals, even if it costs more $$. the internals take a beating with most buildups so don't go cheap. if the Ferrea are what you want then go for it.
what kind of turbo setup are you gonna be using?

Do I need to know what rate valve springs? Also I am using a Precision SC54 turbo with a VS racing equal length manifold

use the Eibach springs & Crower retainers. Larry should have some in stock.

Re: Help Needed quickly What valve springs and retainers (XXXRacing)
Doesnt added boost (turbo) going into the cylinders add more stress onto the valves trying to push the up into the valve train? I may be wrong about that but a better spring would be needed for higher rpm and in the case pointed before to ensure the valve wont be pushed back. From what I have read ( I'm a n/a kinda guy) and from friends of mine that webcam, and crower are great springs for turbo applications

Ferrea, Webcam, Crower and Eibach are all good quality. personally i'm using the Portflow valvesprings though i may be changing when i rebuild my motor.

Re: Help Needed quickly What valve springs and retainers (sweet)
actually the boost pressure behind the intake valve wants to push the valve open and takes away some seat pressure. if you have 25psi behind your valve it takes 25 lbs off the seat pressure. do your research!!

Ok if I understand you right,
actually the boost pressure behind the intake valve wants to push the valve open and takes away some seat pressure.
Is that saying when the intake valve(s) are open and the charged air entering the cyl. will try to force the valve down (open more)taking away the seat pressure of the valve springs, and that is why a stiffer spring is recommended?
do your research!!
Thanks for breaking it to me gently, without Ky jelly . I'm not into forced induction yet, but will always like to learn

yah that's one of the reasons. just go with a reputable company ie. crower, eibach, etc. make sure it's a double spring with titanium retainers. sorry for being a little harsh!

Yup it'll blow the intake valves off of the seats if your running good boost on a decent turbo.
I got a set of springs from HondaSaver for a great price.. hit up Rocket his springs are good for 11-12k. Im only going to 9-9500k but you should always over build.

Re: Help Needed quickly What valve springs and retainers (Dublocivic)
i'm currently using Portflow valvesprings (all 32) on my B18C1 head. i was gonna get some cams with the setup originally, that's why i got the stiffer springs, but then i got screwed out of a deal so i'm using the stock GSR cams.
so i was wondering if using such stiff valvesprings with stock cams N/A or turbo will damage the stock cams over time?
i see how important the stiffer springs are for turbo setups, but i'm staying N/A til i get all of my misc. turbo stuff and i didn't want to run such stiff valvesprings with my stock cams if damage may occur. i'm also using the stock redline for now since i haven't had time to install my Hondata yet.
any info on this?

Na you'll be fine. My room-mate runs PF springs and titanium retainers on his turb'd b16 with type r cams for a while now with no ill-affects (wear, scoring etc..)
