Help Me understand "Get a tune"
I've been shopping round for a turbo for some while now and done research. But I'm still confused about the tuning side of it.
I understand that a turbo without a proper tune can make you run lean and hurt your engine.
Here's my question;
To tune the car, do I have to buy the Hondata, or AEM stuff and tune it myself?
Or can I just take my car to a tune shop where they already have the software, and they can just tune it for me their?
do I have to buy the Softwware annd then take my car to get tuned?
How about the turbo kits that come with tuning software, is that enough, how do they work?
BTW. Engine is SOHC ZC stock internals. I am only aiming for about +/- 190 HP (Whatever is safe) Which is @ 6-7 psi I've read, Do I need to upgrade my fuel pump and injectors for this amount of boost?
thanks for the help =]

first off what is your power goal?
a basic greddy kit even with a blur box will suffice some power goals. all you need is there.
it isnt the software you need to buy, it is the hardware.
hondata has a socket you add chips to (s200)
or a socket you add a board to thaty you can "flash" (s300)
neptune has a setup similar in function as the hondata, and there are others, i dont know much about.
AEM is a complete stand alone ecm. its own box, and its own system. it is plug and play. meaning you can plug the aem into your existing engine harness.
bigstuff, motec, fast and others are i guess a completely complete standalone, needing its own dedicated harness.
check with the shop that you plan to have tune the car first and see what they recomend.
your power goal will have alot to do with it.

you need to tell us what car you have, year model.
your stock fuel pump is fine
but you will need some sort of obd1 computer thats socketed for a chip to be burned to it. Go to a local tuning shop and they will direct you in the right direction.

But, I'm aiming for around 190 HP or whatever is safest
I have a 91 crx si with a sohc zc swap. Same as d16a6, just a different cam
I'm glad I can keep the stock fuel pump cause I heard the Walbro is real loud. I'll just buy a new oem one
I was looking at the edelbrock kit. Everyone tells me it's super cheap for the quality.
It's a shame The company puts their logo everyehere
Cani adapt a civic turbo kit to a crx?
I've heard good things about this shop? Which is where I plan to get the install done

This will get you in trouble fast. My stock fuel pump in my 96 hatch couldn't even deliver enough fuel to feel a 170whp NA GSR setup. Be real careful telling people the stock pump will be fine. I changed mine to a stock Integra pump which flows considerably more then some of the Civic ones. NA is a lot more forgiving though. You start loosing pressure under boost and you can kiss a lot goodbye.

Is their another option?

Ive had several cars make 220-240whp on 6-7 psi using stock fuel pumps. If your pump was failing at 170, you had a problem.
if you have a full interior car, the wlabro pump shouldnt be to loud.

The Walbro is NOT that loud and for the peace of mind it offers, it is worth the upgrade. As for the tuning side of your question, why not look into Crome? It may not have all of the features offered by an S200/S300 unit, but it is a much cheaper option. For your setup, it is really all that is required. Hell, i've been on Crome for the past 4 years...even now on my built setup i'm still running it without a hitch. If this route sounds good, contact Phearable or Xenocron and have them build you a chipped P28/P06 with a basemap for your setup. That will allow you to drive to the tuner and get a proper tune.

the Walbro is not even loud, you wont even pay it any attention, for example i dont even notice when my radiator fan is on while driving, as soon as you crank it up and start driving itll be like background noise...
And for a tune aspect, personally I would pay somebody who is liscensed and have some experience, but you can buy Hondata, AEM, Crome, Uberdata, ETC ETC and get your tuner to tune the car... your best bet is to contact the tuner and ask which program is he/she is more comfortable with.. then go from there...

i have a tsudo 3 inch right now
