Default Help me with air filter (Pics)

there is not much room at all. would a custom k&n filter even fit in here? in the front the radiator fan is blocking it, in the back the block is blocking it, and on left side a hose.

should i get a extender or custom filter. if i do get a custom filter, what size?
ive talked to boosted hybrid, he told me get 5" long and 2.5" inner diameter. the thing is, i measured the compressor and it seems to be almost 3".

get a slim fan for a local auto parts store, wire it up to "push" and put it in front of the radiator, that will free up all that room where the stock fan is

Do like i did. Get a 3" 90 degree bend pipe, this will make the filter face up . I will try to get a pic.

If you want a cheap ghetto solution get a metal dryer hose from Home Depot. Its very bendable and you can cut it to length. At least get that until you get a permenant solution so you aren't using that T-shirt material, or pantyhose, or whatever the hell yer using now.

if its almost 3" then its 2.75" -

http://www.knfilters.com/universal/universal.htm - measure your space and select from there..

http://64.225.76.178/catalog/comp_wheels.html - if you run turbonetics - this should help with size of compressor inlet.

JC whitney will have it, but maybe HD too.

Is it a bad thing to put the filter right off of the compressor?

no, alot of people do it. jeff(boostedhybrid) actually runs them straight from the compressor as well as his customers' cars.

It'll suck in hot air radiating off of the manifold

You will need to get something with a tight radius turn, jc whitney stuff will proabably not work, but depends on exactly how much room you have to play with. Pm b18flip he had a link to site that sold tight radius 90 bends ($25-$30). It was short and sweet and looked like no cutting would be invloved

maybe a slimmer fan

BTW: my FSAE team flow tested mesh screens (1cm square holes) to flow worse than a K&N air filter.

i had a slim fan from my local "national auto"(is that an oxi-moron) cost about 75 bucks. than i used my old short-ram genairic intake, cut it to my liking and used it for my turbo inlet...

not a good pic but you get the idea.
