Default HELP!!! A little oil on head gasket while torquing down head...will it hurt my motor later on?

The setup:

B18C bottom end
B16A head
B16A tranny

Here's the deal...while swapping the head off my B16 onto my B18C, and trying to clean the head as good as I could (without taking the whole damn thing apart and to a machine shop to get hot tanked) I noticed that I may have gotten a little oil from the oil chambers in the head onto the head gasket (OEM gasket, BTW) This was after I torqued down everything...

WIll a little oil on the head gasket hurt anything? I figured itprobably wouldn't, but what do you guys think? thanx..

Are you trying to say that there was some oil left in the drainage holes on the head when you put it back on and as a result, some oil got on to the HG?

If so, I say you don't have anything to worry about. Even if there wasn't a perfect seal, there is so little pressure in that area that the oil wouldn't be able to find its way through the HG.

As long as you didn't get any oil on the part that seals the cylinders, you should be fine.

Worst that is going to happen is the HG is going to blow out and you'll have to replace it

And if you take off the head again, you'll have to replace the HG anyways.

So whats the difference? Dont worry so much.

thats EXACTLY why I am nervous about it. But it seems like a lot of otehr people have done it. Understandably, it's a really easy thing to accidentally do. But if the guys aboves motor held under 30 psi, mine should be able to take 8

It can't be compressed, but it can be displaced when you torque down the head. If you haven't turn it over yet, try turning the crank by hand a few turns to cycle the oil that may have gotten into the cylinders. To be really **** (I've been using that word lately), just recheck the torque on the studs after a few miles of driving.

the one piece of advice that you want to hear but you probably wont take:

"If it's worrying you so damn much, then....right now while you're still into the motor. pull the head back off and toss on another head gasket. sure it's around $40 but would you rather risk your piece of mind?"
